2008-09-15 At the moment you as the owner of a Canon SLR with Zeiss still not very far. On the website there are no lenses in the Canon and heading for the EF bayonet. That should change from autumn 2008, and the beginning make the already known lenses Planar T * 1.4 / 50 ZE and T * 1.4 / 85 PA. In addition, the classic Dist Agon T * 2.8 / 21 now for R-and K-bayonet. Later is also an EF connection to come. For the end of the year Zeiss also plans a compact telephoto lens for rangefinder cameras. The Tessar T * 4 / 85, the ZM-series supplement

Good news. My German is not existant, but am I reading this right that they are also coming out with a 21mm f/2.8? That would be almost as big of news as the ZE mount.
The 21 is a different design than the older C/Y version in that the old version had 15 elements in 13 groups while the new version has 16 elements in 13 groups. Perhaps that extra element helps with distortion control.
I wonder if they will be producing the 35/2, 28/2, 25/2.8 and 18/3.5 in the ZE mount. No mention is made of them. It would seem to me these lenses are a bit more interesting to Canon users that the 50/1.4 or even the 85/1.4.
My rusty German tells me that Program, Av, Tv and M is supported by the Canon on the ZE series lenses, as well as AF confirmation. Exif will show, and E-TTl is supported as well. Price: the 50 ~ $830; the 85 ~ $1430 and the 21mm, when it comes available in '09 ~ $2000.
all I have to say is, if the 21 supports auto aperture, it's going to be an instant purchase for me
even better maybe the 18 can be released as a ZE with auto aperture... now that would be sweet
I can't wait for tomorrow... (how old am I , feel like a kid before christmas )

That's a bit unclear - does someone with a YCZ-21 could verify diamter and lenghts: 87 x 109 mm?
The Contax 21mm Distagon is 85 x 90.5 mm and 530 grams (vs. 600 grams fro the new ZF/ZE 21mm Disatagon). So the new lens is a little bigger and heavier than it's Contax predecessor.
"Wie bei allen EF-Objektiven werden bei den ZE-Modellen alle Informationen ausschließlich über elektronische Kontakte übermittelt. Dadurch werden sämtliche Belichtungsmodi wie Programm-, Blenden-, Zeitautomatik und manuelle Einstellungen unterstützt. Auch die automatische Fokussierbestätigung bleibt uneingeschränkt verfügbar."
Like all EF-lenses, with the ZE, all informations will be trasnmitted by electronic contacs. Thereby every exposure modus is available. Even the automatic focus confirm will work without any limits"
It looks like they added a AF-confirm-chip as the exif show the lensinfos as well as the exposure-data.
what's interesting is if you look at the image of the 50ƒ1.4
there is no aperture ring or the nikon "bunny ear" aperture connection blades!
so the new lenses may indeed have auto aperture!

The price of the ZE 50 1.4 is listed as 580 Euros which looks like an extra ~$300 over the ZF version.
Is that right? So we have to pay an extra $300 for the exif info support.

So how can they state, the data would be from the available lenses??
- if they already show the new model's specs?
