Hi everyone!
Thanks for using the new voting system. The one we tried last week proved to be complicated and time-consuming for members to use. I'm confident that the new method (current one) is much simpler, fair and easier to use.
As you choose your favorite entry, a poll will display the "Current results" to you.

All the best,
Fred

Sorry to see that we cannot vote for more than one. I think voting for the top three is a good idea. (If there is a top three.) But, i do prefer the "old" way to view each entry instead of waiting for a window to open.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for your feedback. Although, this could be implemented (Choose your top 3 - instead of your favorite), I'm not sure if this is what most members would like to see as it would be more time consuming for them.

Regarding the thumbnails. It's necessary to have thumbs instead of full-size images because the number of participants always grow from time to time. It would take a long time for all 640px images to load every time we visit the voting thread. (We are now allowing 'all' entries to be voted)
Fred

Hey Fred, I for one am happy with this new system, makes sense to me and we could only vote for one before so I see no problem going back to that!

I think I preferred the previous rating system. It can be hard to just pick one shot, and picking a few shots to rate seemed a lot fairer.

I'm not sure why it was more time consuming? If someone only wanted to pick one shot to rate its no different to this system?

Participants who contacted me, expressed their dislike for the previous rating system...
The choice of rating system is always polarizing!

The previous system was actually not as fair as the current one. The reason is because 90% of voters rated only one (1) entry. The other 8% rated from 2 to 5 entries and only about 2% of the voters rated most entries. The problem here is that once you only vote for a couple entries you basically give 0 points to the others. At the end, it should not change the results too much but it's definitely not 'fairer'.

I'm not sure why it was more time consuming? If someone only wanted to pick one shot to rate its no different to this system?

For the system to be fair and consistent, members should rate all entries (And that would not happen). On top of that, the previous system was not very intuitive: Members who didn't rate all entries, got the impression that their vote didn't weight much. This could discourage them from participating in the voting process.
The current 'Vote for your favorite' system fixed this issue. The results are fair because members have equal participation. At the end, we will have the top 5 strongest images for sure. -- This system has been used on our assignments for the past 7 years!
The only possible issue is when we have a tie (Which is rare). So, the entry submitted first wins.

In the future, I may consider the 'Vote for your top 3 entries' idea. It could be the best of both worlds. At this point, let's allow the current voting system to run its course for a couple of months. Thanks for your feedback as always!

Whats wrong with that?!

If there are 4 shots that a voter thinks are equally great, artistically speaking, it doesn't seem fair to only pick one!? That's when group democracy kicks in.

One vote/first past the post is never fair. Proportional representation, imho, is far better (and no, to any Brits out there, I 'aint a Lib Dem!)

Wow Fred i really like how the image is displayed the the choose me underneath it. Makes it much easier to vote when you can see all the entries to compare.

1. FWIW, I like the current one better.
2. I really like the "Choose me" instead of "Vote for this picture" line....

Happy shooting,
Yakim.

LOVE this! Great changes, and congratulations to all the 'contestants'!
Fred, thanks, as always, for your hard work. You do so much to make this a fair
competition, and we know you can't make everyone happy, but you sure do work
yourself to death to make it the best it can be. GREAT JOB!!

That makes sense. Thanks for your suggestion.
Thumbs will be shown with their respective titles before your vote.
