p.1 #1 · Heather - Senior Portrait C&C

I'm first and foremost a Wedding Photographer and play mostly over in that forum - however I've been shooting maternity (you might remember "Chris & Liz Expecting"), newborns, families and now Seniors. Heather is actually my first senior shoot.

This is very different than shooting weddings. Timelines are pressure free, it's relaxed and there seems to be more of the element of creativity with planning. At anyrate it was a whole lot more fun than I anticipated. Heather agreed.. Heather was no stranger to me and my camera as i've photographed both of her siblings weddings. Sister Amy first .. then her brother Andrew. I think that familiarity helped.

On with the photos and the info:

Equipment: Nikon D300 w/ SB800's for lighting. Lens: 80-200 2.8 / 85mm 1.8 / Nikkor 17-55 2.8

Lighting: Some shot in Ambient, others with on camera SB800 - and some with off camera SB800 on Pocketwizard

Post Production: Exposure and Whitebalance done in Bridge / Touchup - and Totally Rad Actions done in PS CS3

curoius to hear your thoughts on the post pro - if you are a TRA user I'm happy to share what I did, just PM me.

I like em! Ask her it it would be okay to do work some mams powder on her face. 1 needs it especially. I like the process on 2 on down. The jump shots are good but a little "flashy". Not as in she's flashy posed but direct flash is obvious. I see the sun was all but gone and seem the only option. Maybe switch it up with some different expressions as well? She has similar expressions in all the samples presented. You may have others in the back. Thanks for not using a brick wall or railroad tracks dude!

Sam....

thanks for the feedback... what's this "mams powder" ... I agree 1 needs it. Is it an Action? or what?

jump shots are indeed direct flash as it was somewhat unplanned and at the end of the shoot - she seemed to enjoy them despite!

wow.. I didn't notice that I'd used all similar expressions in what I chose to post until you pointed it out. Yeah... i've got others in "back" (i like that phrase) with non-smiles and such.. appreciate the thoughts

Yes sclera looks a little red or bloodshot... the sclera is the white part of the eye.

Cool stuff. I think you could do a little bit more post work on them. Ease the bags under her eyes and as the others have said try and get a bit of the red out of the eyes in a few shots. The jumping shots are definetly fun.

I really like the last shot. The third shot as well is a stand out.

Keep postin man!

Nice stuff, Travis. I know 9 is a bit overflashed, but it still made me laugh, so I liked it.

Sergio. you'll have to be more specific.... "not liking the flash on this" when there is a dozen photos - some of which were shot without flash is a tad on the vague side.

I appreciate your imput but would love it to be more specific.

there are just a few that look flashed, or the subject looks a little too overexposed. this happens often with the TRA --- gotta make sure to adjust opacity accordingly.

I thought these pics were outstanding.

You really chose your backgrounds and poses well. Great stuff.

You caught her eyes really well too.
