In case anybody wants to know, the back of that Chinese camera is amazingly close to that of a 40D, but not exactly. I spotted at least 3 differences, and not the ones someone might make when creating a fake. So my guess is, this is real. And the camera chassis is a very probably that of a 40D. Helps keep the cost down, and there is nothing wrong with that chassis/format IMHO. And yes, it definitely has a pop-up flash.

There are a lot details that are very hard or almost impossible to fake in the oblique shots of the camera. If it is, I'll be terribly impressed. Also, given the amount of details in the other picts on the site, I find it really, really hard to fake...

Though I agree that the site is...

Came across this line presentation, which is a whole lot more difficult to do and it matches the camera .. Unless you have access to the proper materials.

Canon's MP increase is quite a bit more than previous models. What are you expecting? 20MP? 30MP? Do you really want to pay 7k for a 50D body with a 24MP sensor? Or perhaps around $1400 for a 15MP sensor? It sounds like your expectations are a bit unrealistic if you think that 15MP is not a big increase.

I fail to understand all the moaning about how these cameras are disappointing.

I think the gripe is not too few pixels, but too many. I for one would prefer a 10 MP cam with better S/N ratio as opposed to better smearing techniques to hide the noise.

I think your fears are unfounded. The 50D samples look very clean, even at ISO1600. http://www.canon.icp.dog-cr.jp/products/camera/eos/50d/sample.html

The noise at 1600 looks slightly better than the 5D which is amazing considering this comes from a cropped sensor. I would imaging the upcoming 5D and 1-Series replacements will have incredible high asa capabilities.

I am curious of why the link is pointing to www.canon.icp.dog-cr.jp. So I did a WhoIs Domain name search on dog-cr.jp and it turns out to be not related to Canon China. I am surprised of why they go through so much trouble just to create a rumor.

It is just someone who captured the Canon site while it was still up and running and then posted those pages to a web hosting service. Thankfully, they had the skill and dedication to capture and repost the information. If you go through all of the links that are available, you will see that it is a complete description of the 50D.

but do note that it was taken under conditions where you had 1/8000 and f/8!!
the 20D looks great at ISO1600 under those conditions if well exposed

not that i am doubting that it will be good though
