and what about the focus system...I would bet its not one that is been recycled way way way to many times
As far as I can see, the expected 50D AF system is just one year old, and it has only been used in the 40D. That's not exactly "recycled way way way to many times".
its the same 9 point af thats been around since the 20D...its time to revise it and add more points to make it more comparable to the competition. Like 25points would be great. Just cause they are cross now...still doesnt fill those huge voids between them

We are in for an amazing ride over the next 2 to 3 years as Canon, Nikon and Sony 'slug it out' adding features and pushing the limits of physics in some cases.
That is the most significant recent development, in my view.
Your comments in this thread lead me to believe that
A) You're 9 yrs old
B) You're eternally unhappy with your "profiled" Canon equipment
C) You just need a little tiny push and you'll wake up a Nikon shooter and everything will be rosy with a moon made of cheese that you really can eat !!!

What amazes me more are posts that thank this person - as though the act of writing something down makes it true.
Exactly. Another Internet Expert seeking his 15 seconds of fame.

Which is it ? I'm intrigued ??
Why 9 huh..cause canon has 9 focus points and wont be smart and update it
I am happy with my gear and have no intention of buying any of the xxD cameras. seeing if anything new in the 1D is announced by Christmas for me. its just a shame how weak of an upgrade they give when trying to compete..
I will never own a Nikon..I cant stand the feel they have in my hands, the layout of the 50billion buttons are all over the place and I do not like the way the files look.
e.g.: "...Will there be features that people will fight to the death that should have been added or should not have been added (you bet that’s what happens on internet forums)."
People will fight features to the death?
If people that argued on the internet fought to the death, the world, or at least the internet would be a better place.

Have you ever seen someone fight AF? Ugg. It's not pretty. All that grunting, thrashing about, gnashing of teeth, scratching and biting, and the photographer still can't get close to the feature. An awe inspiring spectacle that may be at the 2012 Olympic games.

No, it doesn't fill the voids between them. But it makes them much more reliable and exact, especially in bad light, than any combination of individual linear sensors ever will. The AF accuracy in my 40D easily beats the "pro" AF in the EOS3 I have - in accuracy, reliability and low light sensitivity.
The only thing the EOS 3 with all its points does better is tracking moving subjects in good light. I see quite a lot of people here asking for xxpoint AF that, when viewing their portfolio, mostly shoot portraits and landscapes.
I would not mind some sort of center expansion as it was introduced with the 5D AF to complement a cross type AF point set-up. But before I start screaming for a pro AF system I'd much rather see other features in a pro-sumer body.

quantisation-noise is related to A/D-conversion and has nothing to do with pixel-size ... i sometimes think theres a hidden agenda going on: excite the Canon-userbase with fantasy-leaks so they experience a guaranteed dispointment ...

for anyone who might be comparing nikon's D300 to canon's prosumer crop line, let's not forget that the D300 costs €1326, and the 40D €770. (here, at least)
Yes the D300 is a Semi Pro camera and the 40D is a prosumer camera. I don't expect Canon to offer a Semi Pro camera for the price of the 40D, but I should would love to see Canon offer a Semi Pro camera for the price of the D300. I want a digital equivalent for my EOS 3.
