Hey Jeff,
Did you try to leave the wedding photography part of the logo without that wave running through it? I wondered how that would look compared to the one now. I really like the big Jeff Huber and the wave/color throughout. I think the website works really well from what I see of the screenshot.

I am very curious about that wave in the wedding photography part. Try it out and see what you think.

hey Chris, thanks for your reply. If you get a chance, I'd love to hear what you think of the other pages.

that is what it looks like without the wave through wedding photography. I am not sure that I like it.. i think having wedding photography "unobscured" may make the eye land on it rather than my name which arguably is the more important part. but what do you think?

Hey Jeff,
Glad to hear your quick response.

For your website, I throughly looked through it (didn't know you linked it above the screenshot) and for an overall taste I really like it. Here are some things I wanted to comment on:

For starters... the layout works great. I feel on top of the logo there is too much space pushing the whole layout down and the copyright is too far down. If you cut the space between the top and the space between the copyright bottom, most of your pages wont scroll and that is a nice reassurance. Although this is minor, I feel it would help things out.

Secondly, the whole layout could use a border or something. I don't know how others feel about this but I just like having everything enclosed. A nice simple border helps separate your content from the white background. A nice 4-5 pt. black border would do just fine. Maybe make it alittle fancier and do double lined or something. Overall, this is just my opinion.

Thirdly, the content of the website flows nicely. You have working images on every page and thats a good start. For the "More Photos" at the bottom, wouldn't it just be ideal to add all the photos into one gallery and have it all dynamic load into a slideshow and have thumbnails to click through? I think it would come off more defined and professional rather then looking at a set of images in the slideshow then another set down below. My thoughts on that.

And finally... The logo... I would have to wait and see what others think about this one. I kinda like it without the wave throughout the two words. I do see what you mean with it being a distraction. I find it a separate identity, meaning you have your custom logo with your name and then your moto or phrase is wedding photography in plain text that color coordinates nicely with the jeff. I think it looks better with the 2nd logo but like I said I want to hear others on this.

So I hope that helps. Hope you dont mind the long story. Ha

Just wondering, how big is the screen on your computer? The logo is huge and pushes everything down. Having to scroll down to get everything in view is not nice. I'm viewing this on a 17'' screen and I cannot get the work page to show all without scrolling. Also, the photos in your contact and about pages are pixelated. Either use bigger ones or do them smaller, there is no need of a huge photo of you in your hiking gear.

Somebody viewing this on a widescreen 15'' laptop will definately have problems with all the scrolling involved and any poor soul with a MacBook or other such small laptop will just get pissed off!

And is there a need for "comments" in the every page? What is there to comment about in your "about" page?

Hope this helps.

I fixed the space at the top, some of the trouble might come as I am working on a 1920x1200 monitor, so I can see a lot!

The comments on the services page is because with the website im using to design this (uber.com), in order to get text and image to interlace you have to use a blog post, and the blog post comes with comments etc....unavoidable unless I go the HTML way, which I may end up doing.

The reason the pictures are pixelated is because they are small .gif's. When designing I came across the proverbial debate of fast loading (and some-what pixelated) images, or the opposite. The pictures on the about page being pixelated doesnt really bother me, but I think I will change the picture on the contact page, thanks for noticing that!

Chris, thanks for your thoughts on the slideshow, i really like having the dynamic slideshow, bu I also want to show off a lot of images at first glance to pull the viewer in. I may resort to a static collage, and follow your advice to compile them all into the slideshow for large/dynamic viewing

Thanks to both of you for your help!

Your name/logo is too big IMO, taking up too much precious home page screen space. You are showcasing your skills as a photographer, and if people like your photos they'll look for your name for sure.

Here's a good reference on home page design: http://www.artwolfe.com . On pages with "less-interesting subjects" high banners with interesting photos as background are used.

It's not about the size of the screen, it's about the resolution of the monitor. I'm viewing this site at 1280x1024 on a 17" monitor and it does not scroll. Someone viewing on a widescreen 15" laptop at 1900x1220 it will not scroll.
