For Sale: Canon 500 f/4 L IS USM Lens. Mint condition with no scratches. Comes with original hard case, lens strap, instruction book, warranty card and original sales receipt.
$5000 + $100 for required insurance, shipping and PayPal fees. I'm covering approximately $200 of the expected insurance, shipping and PayPal fees.
The lens works great. I'm only selling because I just don't use it that often. I bought it new from Beach Camera in September 2007.
I will ship to the continental US only and through UPS, signature required for delivery. I will only ship after the funds have cleared my PayPal account and posted to my bank account (no exceptions). I have feedback on FM and also on ebay through the handle ghozer16. I post on DPR and FM under the same handle (ghozer).
Dennis is correct. I've shipped this lens twice and USPS is the most secure. It'll take a couple of days longer getting there but USPS Registered and insured will run about $40-$45 and requires a signature every time it changes hands. The only draw back is that USPS so-called tracking stinks. It basically will tell you when it left and when it arrived. That's it.
Talking of registered post using USPS, it took a good 2 weeks for USPS to deliver a check for this exact lens (talk of irony) from the West Coast to Indiana!! And Mickey's comments about the tracking are right on!! Basically tracking is non existent.
I wouldn't use USPS from now on. Sold a lens and was promised it will be there from CA to PA in 3-4 days through priority shipping. Took more like 8-9 days with absolute no tracking. I even had USPS check status for me. There reply, don't bug us until 15 days have passed.
Anyway, free bump for great lens. I have one and love it.

Another draw back shipping with USPS is the insurance pay out. I sent a 400 5.6 from Washington State Dec 24 last year to Texas. Well they lost the lens I paid for insurance and delivery confirmation and no sign of it being delivered. So after week or so this is 5 days over the expected time I went to the PO to check. They had no idea where it was at. I asked when I can file a claim I found out it's 30 days after it was sent. Ok so after 30 days still no sign of the lens I filed a claim and here is where the USPS stinks it takes another 60 days for them to review your claim to get your money back. Thats a total of 90 days so what do you do then? The person wants his lens you want the money. Then on the 88th day the lens shows up for delivery with not a peep about we are sorry, I called the 800 number for a refund on the shipping they basically said tough sh!t. I then found out if you insure the lens they do a depreciation on it so if you had a $5000 lens and you insured for 5 grand you may not get the full amount
It may be of interest to know that USPS priority mail is actually transferred from sender's post office to the receiver's post office via FedEx, with whom the post office contracts for their priority service.

Yes I have no issues with their price and speed I still use them today but don't let them lose an expensive lens then the whole thing changes
I shipped a 600/4 IS a few months back from TX to, I think Arkansas or TN, using FedEX and insured for 6K. Cost to me was around $50.00 to $60.00 if I remember correctly. However, don't seal the package as they wanted to visibily confirm what they were insuring. Shipping was only 3-4 days to destination. USPS wouldn't insure it for over $5K.
The postal service is a dangerous joke. Don't ever use them. Insurance and claims are a nightmare, with often no payment. They lost numerous packages of mine. I've never met a mail carrier who gave a damn about anything. Why should they?
