Can someone with a D700 comment on the new auto white balance feature? Have you taken any pictures with the camera that do not have perfect white balance?
I was wondering the same thing Joe. One of the major reasons why I now shoot my Canon 5D images as RAW files is so I can change the "AWB" afterwards because it's usually way off.
If the AWB of the D700 is dead on I'd be tempted to shoot jpg.
No answer on that one yet. Everyone says the WB is very accurate, but it is off more than occasionally on my D300. So, I would want an improvement. Sure, shoot RAW and fix it in post, but hey, what do I do if shooting jpg? Anyway, the answer is out there some where, probably not super accurate, but an improvement over the D70 and D2 series, perhaps. If the shot mattered and you shot jpg, would you trust the camera to deliver, notwithstanding the light source?
Back in the old days we used to carry a gray card.
I think the key is knowing when you can trust the AWB. I almost never do, but to each his own. I almost always use an Expodisc. Nice to nail it the first time. Saves a lot of time in post.
