I've been a long time lurker here and only posted a few pictures, but it's time to show a little more
I'm a french photographer deeply interested in japan. I've been there several times and you can check pictures from the last four years on my website : http://www.alaindavreux.com
As you can see I focus on 16:9 and 2.35 format because I just love them. I'm also adicted to details, but I mainly shoot people so I'm posting in this forum.
I just arrived in Kansai and will stay there a while, therefore I'm now opening my 2008 series I plan to reale updates often and hope you'll like them I'll be covering matsuri (festivals) as well as daily life.
A carrefuly prepared fish, following the Ikama imperial cooking school tradition, will be offered to the deity.
Kibune Misu Matsuri, 2008.

Very nice series! Especially like #2 and #3. The format is great and so is the extra white space, really gives it a cinematic view as you probably intended.
Thanks for posting these images. they definitely bring out another side of Japan, and I very much like your style with your choice of subjects, colors and framing. Best regards, Spyros

I'm glad you like my work and that you feel at ease with my style who is more about evocation than documentation.
I prefer emotional and evocative images over straightforward documentation. It's the diference between news footage and the movies.
For me,this latest shot would benefit from cropping from the right to eliminate the guy in the blue t-shirt.
Are those pics taken at a formal gathering? Those would be kimono's. For casual garments that look like that are called yukata (more than likely at a matsuri). Tid bit for the people not familar with Japan's traditional wear.
all of these were exceptional, but the last sumo one won me over. looks like a magazine print. i love your stuff- very nice and since japan is a favorite for myself, i loved it even more.
im a little distracted by the big white border. you might want to experiment with that- i used to do everything in a white border as you did, but your shots are exceptional to stand on their own- maybe a smaller border would work. loved your stuff.
