Recropped and added back some of the original color - I loved the golds the building gave off from the lights around it.

Comments welcome and appreciated

Beautiful. I really like that shot.
Good choice of B&W and great range of tones.
I keep looking at this picture with great pleasure...
Wonderful.

Well done, John. I've shot DCH before and I found it hard to get an angle that does the structure justice. I like your approach here. For what it's worth, I think the lower left corner may be a little too dark (and I'm on a Mac; I suspect it's even darker on PCs). Maybe try recovering a little detail in the shadows there? Also, overall it feels like there's too much sky and not enough of the structure in the photo. Have you tried some other crops? Maybe a vertical of the left half of the image or something similar?

Thanks for the kind words Christo and Aaron.

Aaron, I thank you for your time to offer some image improvements for this one - I get torn, when I saw this shape, I feel almost like you're looking at the front of a future boat or something with the curve across the bottom of the image. If I crop that, I'm not sure it would be as strong - as a musician, I love space for the music to breathe. I tend to favor that approach with my photographic endevors as well. But let me think about your suggestions, and again thanks for taking the time to comment

The shapes blend togeather and the image really works well as a B&W. It really looks like a fun image to work with. I am undecided about the lens flair in the lower right i might want to see it without the lighter area i think it adds an element not needed.

good luck

Very nice shot of an incredible building! I'm sure most people could spend all day and night looking for different ways to show this great building! You've done quite well!

I like the photo. Just FYI, Gil Garcetti, one of the District Attorneys in the OJ Simpson trial has two photo books on the Disney Hall. The first one came out in 2002 about the construction of the building. The second is not yet out (I think) but it's on the completed structure. There is an article about the book in American Photo (if memory serves). It's the issue with Britney Spears on the cover. I recommend it.

Cool stuff! I'm actually on my way to LA just to shoot this building! Do you have other shots of it posted on a website or something? I've got some architecture stuff posted on http://www.vitalimages.com.sg (see under photography...architecture. Maybe you can comment on one called esplanade3. You might like it. Cheers!

Great composition. You've worked the shapes and the angle just right. This photo makes you look into it. I think the color tones are just right..

This is nice.

Thank you all for the kind comments

LOVE the Disney Hall building - I've photographed it 2 other times. I've started a Canon Digital SLR group and we went there in November starting at 7am. All I can say is GET THE SUNRISE - this building goes thru some amazing hues as the sun is coming up. Make sure you also see MOCMA (Museum of Contemporary Modern Art) which is across the street and the Dorthy Chandlier Pavilion area. Have lunch at the Market (on 4th street I think) - you could easily spend a while day in this area of LA.

Thank you all - this is one building everyone should get an opportunity to photograph. The lines, shapes and reflections are powerful and different everytime I've been there. A building that feels truly alive !

Powerful architecture should always appeal to the individuals senses. The only negative aspect of this photograph is that a 2D image will never let you experience that intoxicating feeling you get from actuating experiencing a Gehry masterpiece in 3D. An inspiring image from a great sequence of images.
