p.1 #1 · Smiles, Guitar Heroes, Pool...

No real link here, well, i guess the link is 'childhood', something i've really been striving to capture.

Tech Info: All with 5D + 35L.

1. A composite of three shots. I was experimenting with wide angle portraits. All three kids have amazing eyes (first and third are neighborhood kids, middle is my nephew), so I thought the wide angle would distort them a bit. I kinda like how they turned out.

2 & 3 Guitar Heroes...shot in my basement, no natural light ISO 1600, 1/100th, f/1.4. i actually added grain to these.

4. Pool. I am curious to hear what you think about the processing.

chuck, love these

i have been trying to do the same thing with my 35L lately-it's a fun look-did the kids find it funny?

the guitar hero shots are great too-of course, great conversion, as always but also love the expressions and their immersion into the game-they're not aware of you and thus aren't posing for you

pool shot works for me-maybe not as cool as the others but i like the depth of your son in the foreground and his mother and sibling OOF in the background-makes the shot much less static and incorporates extra "layers" into the image

all that to say, i like 'em

daniel

Yes, beautiful eyes!

The guitar hero shots made me smile.

The last one has a nice vintage look.

Since I've joined this forum, I'm really enjoying your posts, as they're the same genre I focus on - family and friends. The kids are just the most fun to photograph and more inviting when they see me coming!
These are terrific moments and expressions you've captured! Thanks for posting!

Awesome dude. The portraits are great. I love the guitar heroes stuff. And the retro processing in the last works well.

whatever you did to the light in #4 is superb
i swear it could pass for 40-50 years ago
as a matter of fact, that kid with the hose looks a lot like I did at 4 or 5 years old
hey, wait a second...the woman in the background looks like my mom

Nice work again. The eyes are awesome, of course. The guitar pics have everybody engaged in the fun. Nice compositions. A 'cleaner' comp (Example - including all of his foot in #3, or cropping inwards) might not look as good. I like the last one too. I'm not sure if the de-sat helped a lot, but the result is good.

I'm really loving #1 Chuck. I also like the guitar hero shots except that it's bringing back bad memories for me. I just got my butt kicked by my 8 year old niece last week playing that damn game!

I like the 3rd shot too but I can't stop going back to #1. It's just awesome! I love everything about it. Great work as always.

Robert.

I love the 35 for portraits, exactly like you did with the first one.

And I totally like the processing on the last. I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes adding grain .

thanks daniel! i've really been working on capturing 'life'...if that makes sense. i went through a lot of my older images and they are just missing that something. i feel that my more recent stuff has much more 'depth' to them...again if that makes any sense.

all of that to say, thanks!

thanks for stopping by robert!

i bought guitar hero because i played it at a party and got addicted...quick! now, the neighborhood kids know i ahve it and they always want to come over and play! its pretty funny because they arent very good, but they all rock and move to the beat...and besides that, my 3 year old sings 'slow ride, take it easy'.

yeah, its the first time i experimented with portraits and i like the outcome. to be honest, i am surprised i didnt get killed for 'distortion' or 'you know, shooting portraits at wide angles causes distortion in your subjects...try backing up'.

how do you add your grain flynnie? i dup the layer, fill with 50% gray...add 'film grain' to that layer, then set it to overlay.
