it looks like the 14 -24 with Mark's adaptor can be handheld, even when rotating it for stopping down? So the steps would be?
- framing and focussing
- rotating; closing the f-stop
- framing again...
Another question:
As it has a front similar to a fisheye, it's more prone to dust and other dirt.
How do you clean it, by avoiding scratches and smearings, etc on the coatings ?

The lens is so sharp it doesn't need smaller than f5.6 for practically perfect corners. Handheld, I often set it to f5.6 (like a Sigma 12-24mm at the long end!) and work through the viewfinder - compose, focus-confirm, click. Otherwise, it's the usual stop-down-metering routine: frame, focus, set aperture, click.

Carefully. Or professionally. The third shoot I did with mine was at a waste processing industrial facility. It came back filthy.
Thanks for the replies, seems easy.
dennishh's zoom-in method looks like to be a very precise methode; does it works with every focal lengths?
Does infinity remains at the same position, for all focal lenghts, when using the adaptor?
Usually, whit a adaptor, you can't rely on the native lense's distance scale.
Therefore, it could make sense to add a mark at infinity (when using the adaptor) for long exposures in extrem low light, when AFconfirm might fail.
Just to name a example, for wide angle shots of the night sky...

Just got an update from John at LEE filters regarding the use of filters on the Nikon 14-24G:
"Hi Scott,
The FKD100/98 is a custom part that can be ordered directly from Lee by calling the number below. It costs $70 and takes about a month to make. It mounts in the FK100 holder so mounting on the lens is not necessary.
The FK100 push-on filter holder is $160 and can also be purchased directly from Lee or one of our larger retailers like B&H Photo.
The holder mounts by sliding over the petal shade. You turn a knob and the holder clamps down on the shade with a built-in collar. Then all the normal Lee filters can be used. We recommend that the gaps behind the holder left by the shorter petals be covered to avoid reflections. They can be taped or some photographers use a “scrunchy” (women’s elastic pony-tail holder) which seems to work quite well.
Here’s a photo and description. After you click on the link, scroll down in the small window to “Push On Filter Holder” and click on it." http://www.leefilters.com/camera/products/finder/ref:C4756775B6C7AE/

Since a few days ago I am now a proud owner of a AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f/2.8 G ED. I own a Canon 5D, but planning to replace it in early 2009 with a Canon 5D Mark II.
I have ordered Mark's adapter on Sept. 29 2008 and I can hardly wait for it's arrival. Of course I am aware of the past supply problem, but I hope to have at least an idea, how long it would take now. On the 16:9 web site it is said to be a 35 days waiting time.

Is that still realistic?
NO!! Sorry for yelling, but I placed my order on 4/2/08 and still nothing!!! So I would think that the odds of anyone getting thier adapter in 35 days would be HIGHLY unrealistic...
r90503 - make sure your on Marks mailing list. If you don't have his email from several weeks ago pm me and I can send it to you. ( I will not send it to anyone else, sorry)
Mark, please don't expose everyone's address when emailing. In my email program using the BCC field will not show the distribution list to the recipient.
Whats so special about the email?? How does one get on this email list?? I placed my order back at the beginning of May and apparently that didnt get me on the email list - one would think that anyone who placed an order should have automatically been placed on an email list especially if there is updated information as to what the heck is going on.
I would appreciate some more info - but if you do not want to send out the email to anyone else - I understand - but then again, if there is any info, it should be made public by Mark
Andrew,
I think you are attributing 'gazzajagman's post (quoting mine) to me. I don't have the slide on adapter yet myself. I've been really busy lately and haven't had much free time to fool around with it. Plus I currently do not have a FF body (waiting for the 5DII) ...so I'm not using the 14-24G at all right now. Hope to get around to it one of these days...
Cheers,
Scott
