Awesome shots, Dustin.
+1 Can't believe they are from Film. I find its finny that when Digital pictures looks like film, people like them, and when film pictures looks like digital, people adore them
I don't find Dustin's shots to look like digital at all. In fact they're so film-like, probably because they're shot on film?
But I know the reason why they look good, they're good scans. In this thread we are used to see crappy scans, mine included, where grain is visible even at small sizes. A good scan makes a huge difference, especially on beautiful well done shots like Dustin's.

His images look good indeed. It might be an expensive scanner or a cheap scanner, but either way I suppose there is substantial post-processing involved.
The monk and the mirror, new crappy scans of old slides:

Toothwalker, very nice shots and the scans are far from crappy
What did you do with the second shot? Multiple exposures or just slow shutter speed?
Neither. There was a pole in the wat with a reflective mosaic, like a multi-faceted mirror. I composed for the dragon, and waited for a monk to pass in order to complete the picture.
Thanks everyone for the comments and compliments! I have NO secrets.
I made a thread in here maybe 3 weeks ago about what scanner would be good, and I received some good advice. It became apparent to me that the software used is almost as important as the scanner. When I last scanned (and even shot film for that matter), it was years ago (2005/2006), so the software wasn't as advanced as it is now. Plus my skills were not vey good (they still aren't ).
I use Blue Moon Camera, located here in Portland to do my developing/scanning. They charge $3 to develop only (on regular negatives.. slides are $10 and B&W are $7). To scan, there are several options. Develop and scan a whole roll on low res (like 2mp or so) it is $10. $15 for mid res and $20 for high res. High res files equal about 14MP (35MB).
Since I hadn't shot film in years an dyers, I chose to get mine developed only and wait until I had several rolls of film to scan. I then choose like 20 images to be scanned. They charge a $5 set-up fee and .50 each scan in high res. I asked what scanner they use, and they said Kodak. Which one, I do not know. I will probably get some more scanned here this week. Maybe tomorrow..
Here is another one. I don't do anything differently to the film files than I did to my digital files - there than one single filter; and that filter is phenomenal. I use Nik Define 2.0. That thing works so incredibly amazing! Night and day difference in my files!
As far as the film, I kinda shot my self in the foot. Before I got my scans back, I was set on shooting Velvia. SO I sold 10 of my 13 rolls of Reala (which is only available in Japan in 135 format). I got my scans back and instantly regretted the decision. Good thing though is that I only have to pay $20 more to get the 10 rolls back, but the exp date is now 2014 instead of this month. I only have 3 rolls of Reala left, so will be placing an order soon.
I have found Fuji NPS 160 to be a bit sharper than the Reala. So I will be primarily shooting Reala and NPS 160.
Here is one more from Ruckel. Sorry for the motion blur..
Dustin - if is what you like to shoot, I'm telling you, it's only a matter of time before you start to look for medium format gear (or large format). Just saying....!

I know, lol. Only a few things are holding me back. A wide angle lens is $$$ and I dunno if the medium format bodies are weather sealed. I NEED weather sealing - and if I have to worry about things getting ruined easily, it won't make photography fun. That is why I opted for the F5. Don't have to worry about rain ruining the camera
very interesting Dustin, would like to see more of your work ... I shot with my new-to-me Nikonos V today (speaking of weather sealing). Negs are drying now. I scan at home on the V700, but only for web sharing. I print in the darkroom still (when I can). It was loads of fun taking this camera totally under the water!
