p.1 #1 · Camera Cleaner?

Greetings everyone,

I'm hoping that someone here can share what you use to clean your camera.
By this I mean the outside of the camera. Any recommendations with a source appreciated.

Thanks!

I use STP Son of a Gun protectant. It works wonders on the rubber grip and plastic. I spray a small amount on a paper towel and apply onto the camera. Then I wipe away any excess. It will clean off sweat and oil residues and leave a nice sheen. I believe it is similar to Armor All.

argh... I would not use any of those protectants. Many have no real cleaning properties whatsoever and many also just apply a coat of silicone crap that actually makes plastics deteriorate faster and makes surfaces too slippery, especially for a camera. Armorall is notorious for doing more harm than good. Sure, it makes plastics look nice and black and shiney but you'll find you have to apply it more and more often because it actually sucks the life out of the plastic in the long run. Discovered that on my car. I now use 303 on my car, which is not silicone-based, but I would still not bther with it on a camera body.

Just use a very mild detergent solution. A few drops of simple green in some water, for example, and sponge off the surface.

Canned air.

The main thing is to get any and all dust, pollen, etc, off the body before changing lenses to minimize getting dust IN the camera. That's the only outside cleaning with real practical consequences. I don't care about cosmetics.

That is news to me and I haven't experienced any problems. I've been using SOG for 3+ years on my 1D2. I see no signs of deterioration or residual. The rubber is as pliable as when I bought it new. I should mention that I don't slather the stuff on and only use it every 3-4 months.

SOG contains no alcohol or solvents. I'm not sure what ArmorAll is made of. I don't think the problem is the silicon emulsions. Rather, I believe it is alcohol and petroleum distillates that may be the problem agents. .

In that case, I wouldn't recommend SOG.

Can someone else share their input about my original question?
Thanks!
