p.1 #1 · Cattle Egrets with Breeding Plummage

Ran into a bunch of these guys at Assateague the other week, didn't realize the pink was for breeding until I got back. Shame really, they look so much better with all the extra color.

Looking around for food...and man are those knees flexible!

Nice shots Jeremy.

They have them here, sometimes standing on the backs of the cattle ! Anybody know why it is they "hang out" with cattle ? It doesn't seem to be coincidence that they're in the same field here, just wondered if it was some mutually beneficial relationship.

Thanks Lil, 3 is my favorite as well.

Thanks Harsha!

Thanks Andy, i'd read up on these guys to identify them and their diet is supposed to consist of grasshoppers and other insects in the fields instead of going after fish. I guess you cant beat a cow to perch on in a field so you can watch for food?
