p.1 #1 · Nuthatches from 04/13/08

Testing out my new 400 5.6L yesterday and I was blessed with 2 nuthatches hanging out together. One was apparently grabbing food from my feeder and bringing it back to the other one. Images are resized.

I love the lens, especially for it's size. Now I want a 600!

Just tickle that 400 with a 1.4x TC and you might be well pleased too. Amazing how short a 400 can be at times, especially FF. Those nuthatches are fun, colorful and not often much of a stationary subject. Have fun with that lens!

I know you will have fun with that lens, I sure do. Those nuthatches can be difficult to capture, as Karl said they don't stay in one place to long. Congrats on the new toy!!

congrats on the new 400.
You stated these are resized......full frame uncropped?

The 400 is sharp enough to do really heavy crops with good shooting technique

Shot with my MkII and processed via DPP and then resized in Image Sizer. Yes, they can be quite quick, but they are getting used to my backyard so hopefully I can get closer.

I processed the raw file in DPP, zoomed in (54%), cropped in CS3 then and did a save for web in CS3 as well.

#3 is my favourite pair (despite the branch in the way).
This last one is amazing IQ - I like it! I guess the new toy proves itself...?

Thanks. I took some shots of a Fox Sparrow this morning and the IQ is amazing for sure. This lens is a keeper!
