Reuters has two of the Canon 1200mm. They also have the 1200-1700mm f5.6 IF-ED Nikon zoom modified to fit Canon

If you want to see big lenses made by Canon have a look here:

http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/fdlenses/reflex8002000/cat.htm

They make the 1200 look like a walkabout lens!

Whoa! That 5200mm lens is ridiculous... I wonder what was going through the Canon engineers' mind when building that other than: "Hey let's make the biggest lens ever."

I see that they're mirror lenses like telescopes. So they're probably for astro photography?

Also, sorry for asking about the 1200mm lens. Yikes.

I sorta figured that people had discussed it before... But I didn't know that we couldn't ever talk about something if has already had a post 3 months ago....... But it looks like some people like talking about obscure and rare type gear......

I would love to pull up to a row of wildlife photographers at yellowstone pull a tarp off the bed of a truck and aim that 5400mm at my target. As they attach doublers to the 600's grumble about only being able to take macro shots of the animal at this distance

Get used to it around here, people take their bad moods out on others. Also there are A LOT of whingers. Why would you even read a thread if you were sick of it. I dont read the "70-200 2.8 v 20-200 4" threads anymore because they happen all the time but you dont see me on there bitching about their existence

I dont know just how good the canon would be for astrophotography, but when you get into incredibly serious optics you'd pay easily that much if not more for the kind of setup the best of the best use. Then add in another $15,000 for a suitable mount, $10-15,000 for the CCD camera, few thousand more for the computer and software, and well it gets expensive really quick.
