The second picture is stunning. I would love to see a B/W of this picture. It could add even more drama to this great picture or take away. Its a worthwhile experiment. I enjoyed these. Gorgeous places.

I love #2, but they are all great. I was there a few years back and your pictures very much remind me of the fond memories I still have.
Hi Stan! Thanks very much. That is a cool place, isn't it?!

The second is a strong one, Barry...and so that's how Hugh has the patience for those long, blue exposures: a Hassie permanently strapped to his eye! Dave
Thanks Dave! Yeah, he lugs that big thing around like it's a toy!!
Great shots, Barry! Especially like the coloration in the first.....which is even somewhat reminiscient of a Hugh composition (a good thing in case you weren't sure .
But whassup with Hugh in the 'winter' garb......in Florida?!?!? What was it....50 degrees out that morning.(??)

Really love the atmosphere on these - especially #2. Great light you've managed to capture on that one, and the composition with the veranda off in the mist is really great. Nice work!
Hi Adam! Very grateful for your comments. The smoke from the control burns and the thin low fog really made the atmo that morning. Glad you liked!

Looks like a very cool place Barry. I love how the boardwalk rises above the canopy... it must have been fun to watch the sunrise from there. Neat shots.

The smoky atmo that morning made it a real treat to see, especially with Hugh! Thanks very much!

A great set, Barry. The light is wonderful, my kind of morning atmosphere. The second one takes the cake!
Ute
Hi Ute! The misture of smoke and low thin fog takes the credit for the atmo.
Glad you liked these. Seems to be a concensus on the 2nd, with which I'm in agreement

Thanks very much, Doug! The heavy atmo was nice to have

Really neat set of images Barry! Looks like a great place to photograph and looks like you had some of the misty stuff you really like! Good shot of Hugh at work also.
Randy
Boy, I've really enjoyed viewing your trip images. That 2nd shot has such wonderful fg colours. I love the artistic reach of the upper branches and moody feeling the mist offers. Nice work here!
Al B
Thanks Al. That is such a cool place and we were certainly blessed with the presence of smoke and fog. I'm grateful for your appreciation!

These are beautiful, Barry. I really like the colours and the atmosphere in the first shot. I would like to see a little more of the boardwalk although I realize that Hugh was probably in your way. ;-)
The second one is very atmospheric too. Nice work.
Hi Shirley! Thanks so much. The atmo that morning was compliments of the forest service and their control burns in the area! Hugh never gets in the way
I thought about a wider comp for that one, but I settled for the pink and boardwalk in opposite corners. I guess I'll have to go back!!

Great to hear from you, Fo. And what a lovely and generous compliment!! Many thanks!
It was a little chilly that morning, and a bit breezy, too. Hugh was just better prepared than I!

They're pretty small, aren't they? #2 rocks, what with the view so nicely
framed. Great contrast between the straight lines made by man and the ragged
textures of nature.
Hi Barry,
Ok, well I'm going to disagree with everyone. Yes the exposures, light, contrast, color and sharpness are very good, and yes there is a very nice mood, but I'm afraid I don't like the compositions.
For No. 1 I would have preferred a pan of about 5 degrees to the right to include more of the boardwalk as I feel its crop is awkward.
For No. 2 the trees are too centered, now (assuming it was possible) I would have walked more the left to try to get a little more open space in the center, keeping the platform where it is but getting the trees more to the right. I find there's a conflict between the platform and the trees...maybe it would have been a better shot without one or the other.
No. 4 simply doesn't do anything for me. The tree line on the left is distracting and the lines of the boardwalk aren't as interesting as in no's 1 and 2.

The dwarf cypress is a small, and quite cute I might add, variety of tree that is often seen to be giants! Thanks for dropping by, Marc!

Hi Chris. I really appreciate your thoughts on composition, and also the mood and technical aspects.
In #1 I agree with you about the boardwalk....Tried to get it and the larger pink cloud in the opposite corner and didn't have my wider lens, and wasn't set up for a pano.
In #2, I kinda agree, too. The little extension of walkway offered limited choices for my position to get them all in, which I wanted, and I didn't want to cut off any of the righthand tree.
On #4, OK! Just showing a different perspective. I realize these all won't be for everybody
Thanks for your comments, really. I do take 'em to heart, and will just have to return to Apalatchicola and try again
#2 is my fav. Its ironic, but it looks like a very very well done image in a 3-D scene generation program like Vue. Very ethereal-looking. By far my fav of the bunch.
I seem to have missed these in all the travelling about.
I really like no 2. To my eyes the composition is excellent, with the high viewing platform beautifully placed and the shaping of the bigger trees leading directly up to it from the right. The walkway up to it provides a similar service from the left, again leading up to that left-hand upper third. I like the light you have captured on the mossy cypresses and the misty atmosphere all round.
It's nice to see a good shot of Hugh at work in no 3 and in 4 I appreciate the powerful thrust of the walkway into the sky - I might be tempted to crop off a tad, to include the top of the tree on the left but slightly less sky. I love the textures in the water and vegetation in the foreground.
This looks an exciting place to be shooting - and I know how you love your mist and fog Sorry to hear that your computer is still playing up and I hope that you have had it sorted by now!
