In june we're going to the west (LA-San Diego-LV-SF). Do you guys have usefull tips for places to visit with nice photo-ops? We already booked 2 night at the grand canyon....
Are you driving from LA to SF? One place you have to include is Yosemite. Also the coastline from LA to SF is pretty cool. You can drive the coast one way, and hit Yosemite on the way back.
On the coastline you have Morrow Bay for one place. But that whole coast line once you get above Santa Barbara is fantastic. You can even stay at Madonna Inn if you want a really unique experience!
Of course there are books and books on sub-sections of your itinerary.
If you're on the North Rim of Grand Canyon get over to Bryce and Zion (2-3 days each) and stop by Coral Dunes in between. South Rim check out Sedona if you have an extra day or two. On your way to/from LV there's Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon. Valley of Fire is the better of the two IMO if you can't do both.
CA must sees are Yosemite, Death Valley, Big Sur. I also really liked Joshua Tree and Sequoia NPs. If you focus on the NW section of Joshua Tree you'll get the bulk of that park. Nice alpine hikes to be had from Lodgepole in Sequoia. If it's between Death Valley and Joshua Tree go for Death Valley, just be wary of ugly rock. Decent hikes to be had in the San Bernadinos as well, I did one called "Ice Box Canyon" that was really nice.
Anyway for SoCal that's what I got done on weekends during a few trips out there for business. Need to get back for some more!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Monument Valley to you. Since you have 3 weeks, I feel it presents more photo opportunites than just about any NP you would visit. Here is the distance link from North Rim to Monument Valley.
Thanx for your reactions. I know : there are a lot of books but there is not much foto info. Any tips from photographers who live there or been there are welcome.
