Theres still snow up here in Buffalo, so UB's first "Home" game took place two hours away, and I made the trip. This was my first time shooting baseball, so your comments are very much appreciated. All shots taken with 1d Mark II, 70-200 2.8 with a 1.4 extender.
i personally would like to see more face to the batting ones. the story is cool... but facial expressions make the shot.
i think your best shots are the first and last ones. Both could be cropped tighter. I would turn that last one into a vertical, brighten it up a bit and it is a solid shot. SHARP!
I agree with Dann. Good timing on 1 but you have to assume the ball is there because I don't see it in the frame. 4 & 5 look soft. 4 could use some contract. Were you shooting through the fence or did you have access to the dugouts or photo wells?
Ok, for what its worth, here are a few specific comments;
1: Backs of players rarely work. Nice timing as he's flying into first, but there is little emotion here to conenct to. Faces, faces, faces. sometimes you need to move some more. It's also not sharp.
2: doesn't work. back of player, cut-off ump and catcher. nothing here.
3: Back of batter does nothing. Faces, faces, faces.
4: much better. good timing, good face, BUT, it's soft so none of that matters
5: good timing, bad focus. dump it.
6: Better. Need a tighter capture/crop on the pitcher, face is a bit dark. Har dto tell for sure about focus, but looks mostly sharp.
In the end, keep practicing. You'll be amazed how much better your shots will be.
