We came across a mother and two younger Cheetahs in Nudutu area of Serengeti NP last month. Midday lighting was harsh and contrasty.

Cheetah reaches for the throat and suffocates the calf. Death was slow and the calf went down after a short struggle.

Wow, what a thrill that must have been to see. I saw quite a few cheetah on my safari last month, but no hunting. Thanks for sharing the experience.

As to the mid-day hunting, one of our guides told us that many of the cheetah in and near the Serengeti have begun hunting mid-day - presumably because all the safari vehicles have gone back to camp for lunch and so are no longer in the way.
