p.1 #1 · Bald Eagles @ Mississippi this season

Hi Guys:

Here are some shots of Bald eagles I took this season. I know there is much more to learn, as evidenced by other shooters' like Doug's photos. Hence any C+Cs would be appreciated. This was my first year shooting them - all shots with a D200 and the Bigma (Sigma 50-500 - the cheapest 500mm)

I am planning to get one of them framed..so let me know which one did you like the best..

You have some great shots here. Some C&C, some of the wings are clipped. I know it's hard in the heat of the moment to catch that kind of thing but it makes a huge difference in the final product. Maybe be more careful in metering, some of the whites are blown out, once again in the heat of the battle easy to do. I don't know which one I would frame, that is more of a personal choice. Which ever YOU like the best, your going to be the one looking at.

1, 4, 7 & 12 are the best to my eye on my monitor. Some of the other shots are either a little soft or have blown whites.

I'd still be ecstatic to have any of these, since I've yet to see/photo-capture an eagle.

Hi Pranjal,

You did a great job on these captures. All of us would love to have the megadollar lenses, but we can't all afford them. In the end, though, the photographer makes more of a difference than the lens.

You are right, there are some guys here on FM who are just plain Awesome. But you will also find that they offer some of the best C&C (honest, but not harsh).

I like a lot of your shots and couldn't really pick a favorite. Given the opportunity to take the shots that you got, I'm sure that I would be proud of all of them.

Nice shots. Whee on the Mississippi? First is best for framing I think - if you haven't cropped it.

Cheers,
Gene

Hi Pranja, you've got some nice shots with nice poses here. Although I don't see any clipped wings, I do agree with some of the whites being hot and some soft focus issues, all easily corrected with some practice. If it were me, I would print either 1 or 5. Nice work.

Doug

You have some decent shots here.
Other than what the others said about the whites being a little hot,
I think you shouldn't crop them quite so tight. (if these shots are cropped)
It's a little better if the bird has a little flying room.

Wow...getting comments from Doug and GeneO...I am honoured and ecstatic...I have watched and tried to emulate you guys for quite some time..

GeneO- Most of these are on L+D 14 in Moline, IL. 1 or 2 are from L+D 12 in Bellevue, IA

Thanks for the comments on the exposure..I never thought that it was a big issue..BUt I ll recalibrate monitors and examine.Maybe I ll try and selectively darken the head and tail and see if that helps..

That brings me to 1 question - what expo setting do you guys mostly use - i have used manual for all such shots, considering they have a white head and brown wings, but everyone there on the dam with big lenses were always Ap priority..I guess whatever works for a person, but still I d like to have a rough guide.

And again thanks for the comments..I have posted a few times here and waited for days for a comment..so it feels great.
