p.1 #1 · Thanks to Dave From LA

I just wanted to say thanks to Dave. I had a buisness trip to New Orleans last week and had asked him if he could give me a tip on where to go for some photos. Although he does not live in the area he went the extra mile and contacted a friend that did to get me some info.

This is the internet and User groups at its best Thank you very much Dave

Unfortunately my working hours were awful and I did not have much time for photography but because I had a clue where to go I was able to get out for a couple hours one morning. It started nice but the clouds moved in quickly. Here are some of the shots taken with my new D300 and my trusty Tamron 200-500mm

The D300 sure helps my BIF shots !!

On the way out as the clouds were getting thick I spotted this Osprey. These are pretty tight crops at ISO 500 Im posting them because as he flew by he seemd to be giving me the eye!

And finnaly a Bald Eagle. I know this is not the best perch but its the first time I've seen one in the wild. I found him as I was driving to my work location. The sun was up high at about noon it was windy and I did not have my tripod so I handheld this one.

Thanks Again Dave!!!!

Some great stuff here! The first pelican is wonderful but my favorite is the singing heron. Very nice.

I have the same combination, though I'm selling my Tamron due to upgrade to an even longer lens. It's a very good combination which your shots are proof of.

The singing Green Heron is my favorite... These are great shots proving how wonderful the D300 really is.

Question - - how are you processing these. I've come up with a trick in NX for this lens which you may wish to try. If interested - - please feel free to PM me.

I think #7 is going to be the Eastern Meadowlark. If so, I have not seen one for about 35yrs, but I still vividly remember the one I saw occasionally.

What a fun outing, some great shots on your part. What's up with that Green Heron all twisted up, very neat.

Hi Greg, glad you got some shoot time......and such a nice variety. That always helps in a strange place.

The herons have some beautiful light, and yes they are tri-colors....also known as the Louisiana Heron

if you get down this way again, let me know and maybe I can drive down to N.O.

Thanks for all the comments it was sure nice to see some birds again. Not much around me but Canadian Geese and my friends at the feeder in my backyard.

Thanks for the heads up on the tri color Heron I will have to add that to my list now.

I checked Sibleys on the meadowlark and based on its location I think it was an Eastern because it does not look like the Western comes as far east as I was.

Thanks once again Dave I really appreciate your time in getting me the info, I'll be sure to contact you next time I head that way

Greg
