I thought that maybe you might be interested in seeing a photo of A Northern Pigmy Owl that I shot photos of just after he made the kill on a Deer Mouse. For those who have not seen a NPO, a pop can makes the NPO look big. The mouse gives you the idea as to the size of this tiny owl.

That is one outstanding photograph Jerry. I guess at first I did not realize just how little this owl is. A very neat BG here that looks like rays shining out, neat how the eyes are back in the shadow a bit. The poor little mouse steels some attention from this owl but the picture tells the story, what a shot my friend!
Thanks Carl, Most people do not realize just how small the NPO really is. I live in Calgary, AB and was in Banff one day when a NPO took a House Sparrow in flight. It was awesome to witness, needless to say they strike terror in the hearts of House Sparrows.

Hi Steve, I realized that as soon as I saw the photo. I just came on the FM Forums and was not aware how big it would upload. I've got it under control.

I had scouted the area ahead of time and was aware there was a NPO within his territory. I set up near a thicket where I suspected he was hanging out and called him in. I found myself looking at him in short order.
Thanks Tom, For this photo the shooting details are:
Canon 500mm f/4 L IS lens with EOS 40D - ISO 400 - Spot metering - minus 1/3 stop - 1/1500 sec @ f8 set for histogram check. Tripod is Gitzo 3530LSV and Black Widow Gimbel head.
Very neat shot. I'm thinking you could make this stronger in PS - get rid of the pinks, use shadows and highlights to make the owl pop.. But still, a great start for a remarkable image!

This is an amazing image. I agree with Susan on her PP suggestions, and I would additionally suggest toning down the incredibly bright red on the mouse, which I think is a distraction from the owl. Thanks for sharing, this is a really nice picture.
Beautiful Picture. I'm not sure what kind of mouse that is, but it's not a Deer Mouse. Deer Mice have very striking two tone tails. Either way, I love the shot.
