This image was made at the very end of an engagement session with Anne and Dan. Something I learned from Greg Gorman was, once the goal of a shoot has been accomplished, there may still be time for creating a personal vision. After we'd got a handful of good shots, I had an idea and asked them if they would be into it. I wanted to capture their elegance and sophistication along with the child-like fun of anticipating the big day. So I positioned them like this and when I asked Anne to look up at Dan, she lit up like a Christmas tree. Click... The moment lasted a second. In subsequent shots, she is still smiling, but not like this...
Great composition idea and really pulled it off well! Like the tone conversion. Thanks for the thought about "after the shoot" opportunities - will have to file that one for future reference.
thank you. i would post two more, but at the moment, it would more than difficult and so much easier to point you to the slide show on the homepage of my website @ www.colinvincent.com there you will see the two images of mine that led to this one. both happened naturally, with an added dash of direction. The first time was 7 years ago with the little boy and girl on the church steps. I just asked Gracie to look at her brother to give me what my minds eye saw. Then, last summer I was with Julia (in the pink dress) and Sam, on their porch. But this time the boy was standing out of the frame and instead of bubbles, it was a cigarette. There, I asked Julia to blow smoke and look up at him. So, when I had Anne and Dan in their living room, those past experiences really paid off.
