p.1 #1 · new one light setup

so since the old thread doesn't seem to be working and I'm not sure if it ever will, why not get a new one up...that thread provided great inspiration to lots of people and showcased some great skill. I figured maybe getting a new thread up would allow us to continue where we left off in the last thread and keep going.

so lets see those 1 light setups!!!!!

for those that were unfamiliar with the last thread....just post a picture you took with a one light setup along with a picture/diagram of how your lights/equipment were set up

cheers
rob

how rude of me to start a one light thread and not post my own setup. Well i got most of my studio up now....ups some how seperated the white/black muslin from the rest of my package so the 10x12 muslin will be in tomorrow....please forgive the small white drape lol. I'll be running this setup for some headshots tomorrow as soon as the muslin comes in

one AB800 with a chimera 3x4 softbox, AB 5 in 1 reflector, wescott background stand

quick little shoot with the roommate to test it out

for some reason one of the rod holders on the chimera quick release plate wasn't drilled deep enough, not too big of a deal as i just drilled a little deeper but it was kind of annoying, quality control!!!!

Here's a quick post just to keep things going while I sit at the airport waiting for my flight to be called.

This is from a test shoot last weekend, shooting for the models' portfolios and an opportunity for me to play with some recent additions to my kit. Setup shot, with the hairstylist and makeup artist doing a quick touch-up. Lighting was a single Profoto head in a Mola Demi beauty dish, hung maybe 4' over the models and feathered forward to even out the light. The black cloth to the left of the frame is a black velvet drape panel: I keep two of them in my lighting kit for blocking windows and as big subtractive reflectors or flags, in this case it was gaff-taped over a window.

And the quickie edit of the resulting light:

I am working on new product photography examples for my website. I am proud of this but I fear it is not sexy enough for some people to really enjoy it.

Shot with a single small soft box and a black sweep.

I shot this using a TS-E 90 mounted to a 5d.

Though I am never one to get too excited about pet pictures in general, that is simply outstanding! I really like this image!

No, I'm not, but I have done a few shoots up there for people. Including that photo there of Jessica Sonner. I actually live in Bloomington, IN. So not too far of a drive from there.

As far as Jay's question. The lighting setup on all these was just a single AB800 with softbox, placed generally at 45 degree angle from subject and either to camera right or left. If you look at the catchlights in some, it's fairly easy to see which way the lightsource comes from.

Cheers,
-Jason
