Hi all,

I am going to a car show with my son on coming Suday. Is a 5D and 24-105L enough or I need a faster len because I do not want to carry a flash.

toronto auto show?
you should be fine. from my experience last year most areas are well lit. there were a few poorer lit areas but you can just bump up the iso for those since you have a 5d.

You definitely should be fine with the 24-105. The car show that I attended last year I took my then owned 1DII and 17-40, and I shot between ISO 800 and 1600 and the shots came out fine for the most part. Plus, you have IS on the lens, so I think coupled with the low noise of the 5D, you will make out fine.

I was just wondering what lens for a car show that is coming in a few weeks. I will be using a 40D and I just got the 85L so I was wondering if that would be a good lens option. Pretty much my only other option would be the 70-200 f4IS.

I am not looking so much to take pics of the full auto body but mostly close in shots of wheels, badges, etc. I am worried that once I get there I will decide I want something wider, then I wont have it....

The lighting will not be as good as a lot of the bigger shows - like Cat, I don't want to use flash. I have never taken pics at a car show so I am a little lost.

If you have to stand back with your 85, be prepared to ask passersby to remain clear for your shot.

Yeah 24-105L should be fine for The Auto Show in Toronto (if that's where you're headed). I was there last Sunday and most displays are pretty well lit and your IS should help out on the ones that aren't.

The crowds (and there were lots!) were pretty civil and took turns in the good spots for the shots.

Best time to shoot at indoor car shows are when no-one is there.

With a press pass you can usually get in early and get your shots done before the crowd shows up. And the lights are usually brighter.

Otherwise it's a trade-off between longer lenses and people walking in your shot, or wider lenses and mostly unflattering angles.

Yes, I am heading to car show in Toronto. So, a Crhmpler 6 million camera bag, 5D and 24-105L will be fine, right?

My son and I can't wait for our first car show in Toronto.
