So I got a ebay 10% off code in my inbox today from ebay with a redemption code the most you can save with the 10% off is $100. All the more reason to buy a $1000+ lens I mean if I buy something cheaper I wont be using it to its full saving potential right?

I have a 70-200mm F/2.8 IS that would have been my 1st choice but the other 3 I've narrowed it down to are below. I'm leaning towards the 24-70mm lens since it seems like a great lens and given the fact there are not alot on ebay I figured most people are happy with them and not selling.

But the the new 16-35mm is also very tempting I currently have a 17-40mm so it would be a redundant focal length. I use my 17-40mm alot so al wondering would it be worth it to sell and replace it with this fine lens.

The 24-105mm is sort of a last resort they are easy to find being a kit lens so if all else fails and I cannot find one of the 2 above. I will settle and buy this one I have until the 28th of this month to find something so any info would be good.

i wouldn't get any of them... but what camera do you use? i'd buy the 16-35mm f2.8mkII if this was your most used FL. then i'd sell the 17-40mm. or keep the 17-40mm, and buy the 24-70mm (or the 24-105mm depending on if you need more reach and less speed)

I don't think I'd buy a $1,000 lens on eBay, period. You could probably do better on our Buy & Sell, even with the discount, and you are much less likely to get screwed.

24-70L
But wouldn't bother with ebay, not on such a big purchase.

17-55 is out I only want to buy L glass stuff that I wont end up selling in the future so trying to buy the best I can.

As of right now I use a 1D marIIN and a 1V HS I have a 30D for when I use my telephoto its really just a 1.6x tele coverter to me. In the futer probably upgrade to a 1d IIII or 1Ds MII but dont see myself wasting any money on a 1.6 crop camera unless the 50D comes out and has amazing specs.

they do have brand new lenses on ebay as well but you guys do have a point there are not alot of 24-70mm lenses for sale on there as of the late and checking the code dates I dont want to buy something thats 4yrs old

I found one being sold by kEH which we all know is a honest place so hoping they list some other items soon.

I've bought 4-5 used lenses on eBay with spectacular results. Takes persistence to find L lenses on eBay though...

The 24-70/2.8L is a handy FL range on any body, but it's just not my favorite, in fact my least favorite, of all my L lenses. The AF is a dog for a 2.8, really no better than even my 35-350L (though markedly better than that wonder the 85/1.2.) The sharpness WFO is noticeably less than my 70-200/2.8.

If you have a 1.6x body, get the 16-35/2.8L for sure. I was simply astounded when I first got that lens as I had no idea a WA zoom like that could be so sharp, and the range is great on a 1.6x for tons of work.

I haven't got any experience with Ebay.

As to the choice of these lenses: it all depends on what, where and how you shoot...

looks like 24-70mm is winning the pole I gather once I have the money replacing the 17-40mm with a 16-35 will be a good call but for now its doing the job.

Just found a 24-70mm being sold by tristate cameras seemed legitimate their re seller rating is not the best but the lens is brand new so should be safe.

with the $100 off ends up being $938 not bad fro brand new =)

Couldn't have said it better myself. You're much better off looking here in the B/S forums.

BTW....it was no surprise to me that the 24-70 got so many votes.

I just came back from London and Brussels and took the 24-105 and 17-40. The 24-105 was on the camera 90% of the time and produced great images. If you're looking for an all around lens and don't need the additional stop for indoor shooting (use a flash), I would go go for the greater reach, flexibility and IS of the 24-105 over the 24-70.

I've bought expensive lenses from Tri-State, and never had any reason to complain... they're not in the same category as Broadway Photo, 42nd St Photo, or BestPriceCamera.
