p.1 #1 · Album Spreads - 12.15.07

Just finished the album design for a wedding I did back in December. I posted their images about that time, but thought I'd get some feedback from their album design.

First time posting an album, so let me know what you think!

These are just a few of my favorites

I love it! You did an amazing job. May I ask what software you used to design the album? Did you do it from scratch in PS? I'm looking for a better album solution.

Thanks,
Matt

This is a 10x10 Asuka Deluxe, laminate matte finish.

All done with photoshop by scratch, no templates here. I'm a former designer by trade (well, still am I guess).

In that case...I hate you for being so good at designing.

I really like it, except for the background image on #2. I would say make it more opaque or get rid of it completely. The picture itself is great, but it fills up too much space to simply be a background image. Not sure if that makes sense.

Yeah, I was pretty much taking notes the whole way through... great job.

<----- Opens PS to continue working on the album he just walked away from.

Nicely done! A couple of tiny niggles

IMO the BG image on #2 needs more opacity.

#4 I like that you have used the gradient from the sky as a design element. (Same for the color from the bricks in #3) But the line going through their legs keeps drawing my attention.

#14 I'm not sure if the candles merit a full page.

#15 (Love this page) I would increase the opacity of the BG image.

That said, I'd be THRILLED to present this to a client.

It was an LDS wedding. No ceremony shots.

I really like it. My one critique is the wedding side of the cover. I'd prefer to just see the one shot on the right. It's dramatic and deserves to be the showcase.

Correct

The candles, well, they were pretty specific about the candles and I was very pleased with it. I was really struggling with reception shots, barely made it to fill up the 30 spreads so it was one of the best.

As for the cover, I thought the same thing Mel. The only reason, is there is a large dark void in the bottom right, where the light didn't creep past his legs like I was hoping. I feel it would be too large to really make it the centerpiece, but I'll look at it again.

Anyways, heard back this morning, the couple is very ecstatic about it, with only one image swap, so I guess that's good!

Don't get me wrong, I thought the photo was plenty good. And if the couple wanted such a shot, then I fully retract my opinion.

As I said, I'd be thrilled to present such an album to any client!

I didn't want to discredit your opinion in any way! I was reluctant myself to put a big one of such a small detail, but I guess it's OK with them.

I really do appreciate the comments I'm receiving, so thanks again!

WOW.. well photographed and very well presented.

Do you leave your SB logo on every spread in the album or is that just for posting here?

I had the same ? as above. I would take your logo off every page. I think your name on the first page is enough credit to tell everyone who did this WONDERFUL work. If I were the client I would not want the logo on all the other pages. Let those be about them.

i really enjoy your work-great stuff-would you mind filling me in on the LDS deal? not familiar with it myself

is your lighting for the formals (b&g) done with strobes or speedlights? if strobes, how many did you cart around that day?

great layout-thanks, as always, for sharing your work with us

No, my logo is NOT on the pages, just for posting. It's part of my watermark action, so I didn't bother to remove them. So . . . my logo is only on the back, and the last inside page (it's blank anyway). I would never put it any larger!

I use 1 strobe off camera. AcuteB with either: Elinchrom Deep Octa (39") or a large SB (36x48"). I have some hot-shoe flashes and might start using them as rim lights, but it's hard sometimes when you're alone.

LDS couples will get married in one of the LDS temples. They are restricted to members of the church (those that have a recommend to enter). No photography is even allowed inside.

They mainly want the e-session and the documentation of the rest of the day, and their own formals outside of the temples.

Looks nice. Classy and not over done. I do agree with some of the other comments about #2 being too transparent. I'm assuming you've done this before and it comes out ok in final print.

I'll toy around with #2 again as a number of people commented on it.

My mindset is I don't want it to compete with a large image on the right. I want it to be like a subtle nuance that you finally realize after looking at it, not something that necessarily draws attention to itself.

It's mainly to fill up white space
