Here's a few backyard treats from yesterday. All taken through the sliders and the Cooper's was between the deck spindles too as evident in that shot. Thanks, Herb

the downy couple is quite nice Herb, even in the sun, they look cold
Thanks Dave. They are cold, I'm sure. It's been steady freezing temps lately. Herb

Nice captures, Herb. I like the setting in the second shot.

Thanks Socrate. This is my first attempt at him this winter. He seems to land on the deck rail and nearby trees whenever I'm away at work. Herb
I envy you getting the pileated in your own backyard. Where are you located?
I get a lot of activity in my backyard, and have counted over 30 species of birds. No pileated on my list yet. There is a nature park about 1/2 mile from where I live, and I know they are in there. Do you do anything special to attract them?

Thanks Teked. I live in northwestern N.J. in a lake community.I've counted over 60 species in my backyard. I have several tube feeders and a suet basket hanging,
but the Pileated comes for the rotting limbs and bark on the trees.

Very nice pictures. I like the downy shot the best.

Thanks Harsha. It seems the downy's win even with that branch in the way.

Herb. Coud you get that, WP, raptor and the downy's to come to my yard?
Ted
Sorry Ted, unless you have snow and ice around, the wp's won't show.
I'm lucky to have downys and red bellys daily, hairys and pileated a few times a week, and the spring thru fall the YB sapsuckers and northern flickers, a nice wp assortment. They do have a suet basket filled 24/7 year round, and tube feeders stocked with lots of nut mix along with the standard seed yearlong as well. I think that helps alot.
