I just registered today after being encouraged by a friend and my mentor in photography. I'm from San Jose, CA and been lurking on the FM site for quite some time. I haven't found my niche yet in the photography world, so I shoot and learn when I can.
I'm shooting with a Canon 30D and the lenses I own are a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 and a Canon 70-200 f/4. I borrow my friends Macro lens when I get the chance and shoot.
Anyhow, I look forward in getting some critique on Macro photography as well as ideas.

I just found this site and joined today, so I guess I am a Noob but not necessarily a Lurker yet. I live in the state of Kansas in the United States and have a silver Canon XSi. I just bought a Canon 100mm macro lens (used) but have not tried out any macro shots yet. I am fascinated by what others can do--especially when it comes to macro photography. I am quite new to photography and I am still working to get my pictures to be "crisp." That is my main complaint at the moment--they just don't have the sharpness that I want. Right now I am completely overwhelmed by how much I have to learn about every aspect of photography--so much so that I am almost ready to go back to a point-and-shoot. ALMOST. It is difficult to be patient when I want my photographs to be excellent and they keep turning out mediocre, but it is inspiring to see what others can do. I look forward to learning a lot here. Yes, I will probably "graduate" to being a Lurker next! <g>

Ok, so I joined earlier this year and have just gotten around to Lurking, So I guess you can call me a Lurker, guilty as charged. I am from Maryland and after some lurking, I have come to the conclusion that there is some amazing talent here. I have been working on my skills/hobby for about three years, but after joining this site, I realized that I still have so much work to do. I really look forward to posting and getting the feedback. I recently upgraded from a Nikon D70s to a D700 with the following lenses; AF-S Micro Nikkor 105mm 2.8, AF Nikkor 50mm 1.4, AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm 5.6, and a DX AF-S Nikkor 18 - 200mm I used with my D70s. My goal in joining this site is to bring my work to the next level, my goal for joining this forum is to really learn what makes a really good macro shot. I just got my Macro lens about two weeks ago and really want to use it, I have always found Macro photography very exciting. I also agree with ozziepuppy in that there is so much to learn, its enough to make my head explode.

Hi all,

Another lurker saying hello. I'm a former graphic designer turned photographer. I do some assignment work (portraits, etc.) but my main love is fine art photography. Got signed to a publisher last year, and they are printing and distributing some of my prints worldwide, so that's a kick.

Just upgraded from D200 to D700 and added the lovely 24-70 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 to my arsenal. Some of my research leading up to that purchase happened on FM, so I figure I should at least do the courtesy of saying hi to all the people I've been reading. ;-)

I've been researching a lightweight but sturdy tripod and ballhead to replace my old clunky Bogen. I may be posting some questions, as I've narrowed the search considerably (pretty well set on Gitzo CF legs and either a Markins or RRS ballhead).

Thanks to all who post here and share their knowledge and experiences!

Yes, I too am a Noob! I don't think I Lurk though.
Easily lose track of time while enjoying the posts? ABSOLUTELY!

I love this site! I have been in aww of the talent and knowledge of those posting here.

I recently used Christmas gift money toward a Canon Rebel XS. It seems like a great starting point.
I am completely hooked! I rushed home from work just yesterday anxious to take my camera outside to take close up pictures of the plants and trees that were ice covered. I can't even describe how much I enjoyed it. Although I was pretty happy with a few of them, they are not worthy of posting here yet. I cannot wait to learn more about Macro and aquire the equpment needed.
Macro is not my only photography interest, but maybe my strongest interest right now.

Hi guys, my name is Peter, born in Poland 32 years ago.
For last 14 years I live in Chicagoland. Started digital photography
with Sony DSC-717 couple years ago. I was on and off with that
beautiful hobby. When we got our second son I decided to get a faster camera.
So last year I sold 717 and got D40 w18/55 lens. I recently added 55-200vr and SB-600 flash, and wright know I'm hunting 50mm lens for macro shots. I like the macro photography and wildlife. Glad to be here on this forum. I already got some nice tips and ideas how to take better photos.
Thank you
Peter

Hello all, I'm relatively new to this site and definitely new to the world of macro. I actually just posted a thread whether I should pick up a designated macro lens or go for tubes. I used to have a 28-135mm and I'd shoot that macro as best I could but I want more detail. I see some of your guys bug shots and it trips me out. I can barely get close enough to a dragonfly or a bug before it scurries or flies away.
I'm just looking for inspiration and help in decision making into what would be a good buy for my new macro endeavors.
I shoot a 30D with either a 70-200mm or a 17-40 as close as I can get to the subject then zoom in.

Me personally, I am fortunate to have the money to buy good equipment and have the desire to stick with it to justify the expense, however I just haven't spent proper time taking photos and so my experience level is not so high yet. Major problem getting the wife to take her vacation time so we can go on trips so most of my photos are not just of our dogs.

I've been a member and casual poster of another site but I've gotten tired of the mean spirited and unconstructive remarks that I see there. Very recently I've been viewing FM forums. So far FM forums seem friendly and helpful, in particular for the couple posts I have made.

I love looking at what others have done and while still considered a beginner prefer to learn how to duplicate and then hope to experiment more after I have become more fluent. What is missing in most posts is how people achieved what they have done, in particular portraits. I have bought a little bit of equipment to aid in portraiture, but again lots to learn. I just ordered a book that I hope will help me to understand how to use the lighting that I do have.

As far as macros, here are 2 of the few I have taken. Both taken with Canon 100mm f2.8 macro. One thing I've learned is that I was not using a high enough f-stop to get better DOF.

Ooo! I get to post here finally!

I just got my first macro lens but have wanted to do macro photography forever. My first shot is floating around in another thread at the moment (http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/732756). Nothing good but I liked the color I was getting from my new lens (180mm f3.5L) so I posted about it.

Hi everyone!

I'm a total noob to photography. I've started getting into it for the past 3 months. I'm taking a introductory photography class and enjoying the learning the technical side. I have a Canon 50D and have a variety of different lenses. I've always been intrigued by macro shots and bought a Sigma 70mm 2.8 macro lens. I've seen alot of great photos in this site and hope to be able to contribute to this board.

I would be a newbie to checking out the macro threads. I don't think I am a particularly good photography (especially compared to the guys that post on FM, but if there is one part of my photography that might pass for presentable, it is my macro shots. I take a lot of pictures of insects and fishing flies.

I just made my first topic thread about the best flash for a 180L.

I am sure I will learn much from my the collective wisdom around here Thanks in advance!

I just posted 1st shot here... kitchen still life

have looked for a while....

tried a reversed nifty fifty earlier but was frustrated by the set up.. it just seemed kind of clunky

More than anything I think hardware prevented me from posting....

I managed to get my hands on one of those $318 Circuit City 100 f2.8's. I'll see where it takes me. I did find it MUCH more workable in my first couple attempts. Shooting with a tripod certainly helped in a couple of ways...holding focus...and being able to work at slow shutter speeds as I don't have a flash

More interested in textures and plants than being a bug sort...at this point at least

Just a quick question. Am I allowed to post links to photos that I have in my photo repository website? I use Villagephotos and have done for a few years.

I'm one year late to this conversation. I wish I began this hobby in high school, my father had a Nikon SLR which he would have allowed me to have. I do not have a traditional macro-lens yet, my arsenal is gearing up for urban assault or street photography. Thanks for taking me under the collective wing of this group.

Just took my first series of macros with hand held reversed 50mm. I definitely need a reversing ring and maybe a tripod. Hard to get sharp, in focus shots when I'm trying to concentrate on not dropping my gear.

This is fun, look forward to doing some more.
