It's definitely a good alternative to the bigger/heavier/pricier 200-400 f4 for travel and hiking. It should be very good quality based on Nikon's record of updating lenses. Price should come down once the initial rush to have it first dies down.

That's my take on it, if it cuts the mustard on IQ I'll be getting one for sure.

Can you expand on the twitter posting you made about the D800E & 600F4 combo being better than the 1DX & 500F4 combo?

Thanks guys! I figured it would be a great lens. Bill Fortney just got his copy and he's out testing it so we'll see what he has to say. I really don't want to invest in longer Nikon primes until I see where the D4X rumors end up so this would be a good lens to give me a little reach with the D800 bodies.

Mark, While I'm sure the 600/4 is an incredible lens, unless one is shooting slower moving subjects than we normally do, the D800/600 combo isn't likely to be as good as the Canon 500 II and a 1DX. I would think that would be pretty much an ultimate combination for fast long glass shooting. I've said it several times before, much as I love the D800, it isn't fast by any stretch of the imagination, but then, I didn't buy it for it's speed.

Hey I want to know why you all come and hang out at HQ when there's fun and food, but when a guy decides to polish, wax and detail his trailer................all I can hear is the wind?

I've got exactly half of it looking like new, think I'll save the other half for another day. KTKI is clear and forever with winds 25G35/ocnlG40. The Cub is very happy where he is.

I bought a 6" random orbital buffer from Griot's a week ago, makes the job a lot easier, looks like about 3 hours a side. The Cub is next.

Thank you Andras. It's been a slow go to get back into the swing of things. My wife has been with her dad, sister and brother for the past two weeks and we are ready to have her back home, but I know this has been very good for them.
