I really liked how the T-33 looked in the morning.

Can someone explain what's going on with the wing blur? He's rolling left while climbing, but why would the right wing be sharp but the left wing not? I'd expect equal motion blur at both wing tips. It's seems like the right wingtip is sharpest, then across the airplane it gets less sharp. It's not just this frame, I have a sequence of 4 frames all the same as he rolls thru about 90 degrees.

Erich

Motion blur while tracking a 'little flippy airplane' can take many forms. Since Jan Collmer probably wasn't rolling the airplane around its right wing, my best guess is that you weren't tracking the aircraft quite perfectly with your camera. The effects of roll blur and a little relative motion blur must have canceled each other out, but only at that one point out on the right wing.

Here's a Stereo-X pair of Waimea Canyon on Kaua'i. I'd call it a near miss because the clouds were moving so fast the sun dappling of the ground is slightly different in the two frames, which were taken only a few seconds apart.

Inclined to agree with Zim on the Collmer shot...

However, Jan does fly a more "genteel" form of aerobatics so it's quite possible his axis of rotation was mid-span of the right wing and not right down the longitudinal axis.

Oh, I never considered my movement's motion blur counteracting the rolling motion blur. Thanks!

Jay, why don't you suggest that maneuver to him and let us know what he says?

Don't think you could counteract that blur Erich.

The wings are moving toward and away from you, so unless you lurched forward or back in exact sync with his rotation speed...

Yeah, I'll drop Jan a note and see what he says...

I've decided to sue Adobe for false advertising...

I put this into CS6 CC, lasso'd the speaker, applied Content Aware Fill...

...and this was the best it could do!?!?!?! Where's my airplane!?!?!?!?

Nice work Guys!

Erich, the boys are right, there is so much motion going on that it's difficult to pinpoint particular effects. You did very well with your slowing shutter experiments.

Jay, content aware is one of those things that you have to try in each situation (obviously this one was tongue in cheek), it is miraculous in some circumstances where you think it won't be, and a complete dud in some where you are sure it will work.

Picked up a cool assignment today, brand new A330, inside and out. We're figuring three days of photography +-, the bird is huge!!

Jim, that's awesome. If you ever need people to carry your gear, I know where you can probably find a few volunteers.

Jay, you must not know about the new menu option where you tell content aware what kind of plane it is. It's obviously still set to the default Stealth camouflage setting.

Congrats on the A330 Jim, sounds like a fun 3 days of shooting.

Edit: TOPP-my own slow shutter envelope expansion.

Fast and furious...I couldn't get a sharp one of Jan when he was in Temple.

This is as close as I got, and he was straight and level...
