I know most folks here don't really know too much about the individual people in the Sport Air racing league, but one of them was a great guy who we knew as Racer Bob. He was an ex-NASA and JPL engineer who stopped at nothing to tweak and mod his plane to go that bit faster. He was in a season-long battle wih another RV-6 pilot for championship honors. Sadly he won't get to contest them any more; he was found deceased this morning at his home. RIP Racer Bob, we will all miss you.

Edit to replace the image with a better quality one... looks like the SARL uploader mangles it...

Oh Jo, I'm sorry. I know that you have gotten close to all of those folks. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your racing community.

Cool Colin! My guess is much of that stuff is already available. The big glass public infrastructure items aren't likely to be popping up very soon given the financial condition of our country, but in the private sector I think you 'll see lots of that in the near future, and in China, Singapore, The Middle East (not the parts where no one works and they roam around all day with RPGs on their shoulders), that stuff could become commonplace. What an amazing time we live in!

Jim, I must have missed that particular disclaimer form.

If that hanger shot is the result of quickly clearing the hanger I can't imagine what you can get given the time.

As for the new MacPro, it'll undoubtedly be incredible. However, for still photo work I can't help but think it'll be overkill. If you were doing a lot of video editing or otherwise rendering images or compositing that'd be different. The fact is, most "normal" computers are already fast enough for most of what we do.

Erich

Enjoy your new Mac, Jim. MacPro, or iMac?

Your Talon with sunset and Texas flag for a backdrop is a stunner.

Erich, have you tried building a 45-frame HDR panorama from D800 RAW files?

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those specs are for an iMac.

Erich, I think you're right, and Zim and I discussed it long before the new Mac Pro was announced. You end up with 3 grand in a screaming iMac, v. 8 or 9 grand in a Mac Pro, just doesn't make sense for what we do. They have made the iMacs way too good. I think that fact will dissuade lots of buyers to opt for them rather than the Mac Pro. In fact, I can probably put a new top of the line iMac in three places for what one Mac Pro will cost.

Interesting peek at the future. I'll throw out one question though: All those different forms of interactive displays? Where are the cameras? How could grandma see the girls from the kitchen counter?
