Jay,

I think this works well. Makes the Remos look quite dynamic.

I like it! But then, it's my airplane, so I'm biased.

Jim, I'm puzzling over your Talon pano crop. How did you get this angle from the right side of the A36? Or did you shoot this from the ground? Either way, it's beautiful.

I'll say you did, Jay! The cool thing about this series is that I have these images seared onto the back of my eyeballs from having been there with you in the Remos, and you captured them all. It's rare to have both: when I'm shooting I'm not really 'there', if you know what I mean.

Did you try this one with a gradient filter to bring up the ground a little? I'm curious how that would look. I think if we'd been closer in to the runway it would be fine, as is: the runway lights would have been more prominent as a visual element.

Thanks, Bill!

By the way, that's only half of the crazy field.

Gosh, you could sell an airplane with a beautiful shot like that!

Here's a mystery for you. See all the carefully laid out, geometric two-tracks in this shot? The pattern cuts across roads and fence lines and crop lines, and it continued like this for ten or twenty miles on both sides of the airplane. The nearest town is Eads, Colorado, a few miles southeast of my position in this shot, which was taken looking west.

Here's a Google Map link that shows much of the same area; on the map the placemark labeled Farm 1 is seen in the photo in the middle distance just to the right of the dirt road that runs through the frame from top to bottom, which is labeled road V on the map. In Google Maps' satellite view there is no sign of the pattern you see in the photo, so it must have been made recently, and is most probably temporary.

But who made the pattern, and why?

In a more serious vein...

Perhaps some type of surveying project? How do the two-track lines fall in relation to magnetic Vs true north? How much declination in this area?

I would guess it may be linked to a GPS calibration. Perhaps marking his field for the first time or verifying a recent calibration. Farmers run software programs in the tractor to help them determine location and quantity for spreading fertilizers, herbicides, etc. based on mapping/analysis programs in addition to pointing the tractor in the correct heading during farming operations.

Steve, unfortunately even at 100% the Remos isn't recognizable in my runway shot.

Jay, yes that's me in your second Remos shot. You are hitting them out of the ballpark!

Apparently the new 200-400 lens is making many a Canon shooter go all weak at the knees.

Erich
