BTW, the big shot is a Nikon D800 file, handheld at 140 knots at 8,500'. Standing two feet away you can practically read the highway signs. I acted like it was business as usual as my client ooohed and aaaahed, but behind the scenes I was amazed by how well the image held up. This was the acid test for my D800 and their 24-70, my hat is off to Nikon.

What were the actual printing specs Jim?

Dunno exactly, cuz I have "people" who worry about that stuff......

The booth is 12' x about 8' tall. My guess is the aerial image is around 8 x 10. The dpi on anything over 40" goes down to 150 dpi I believe. I do know that the file could have gone several times the size and still held up at viewing distances over two feet.

@ Mark: It was pointed out elsewhere on the web "that one can not polish a 787" and that's probably where the decision to paint came from.

Thanks! I've been involved with numerous very large trade show exhibits as far as supplying imagery, but this one was fun because it was relatively small, designed from the ground up, and gave the client something they could be proud to stand in front of.

Back home in the cool, dry air of the Rocky Mountains. Rarely have I seen a soggier suitcaseful of clothes than after the last week spent mostly on the windward side of Hawai'i.

Here's a stereo-X pair of a detail from the pahoehoe lava flow from Kilauea that buried the town of Kalapana in 1986. Most of the town, anyway: there are still a few hardy residents who live in surviving houses isolated like oases by the flow.
