Except when you live with it's home airfield in your backyard and the owner takes it out almost weekly. I've had to screw my pictures to the wall because the Devil Dog, several P51s, a C47, and several other WW2 planes make their home here in Georgetown.
Naw, Im kidding.. I actually love watching them fly, except for the dude in the SNJ4 who buzzes my house at 200 mph on a regular basis. He never seems to do it when I have my camera handy...

Brian, that sunrise image is fab. I do see a little chromatic aberration around the monument edges. Lightroom will fix that in a microsecond, if you use that.

Welcome Turbo, you should get together with Brian, sounds like you're neighbours. Glenn and I are also local.

Last night, as I was going through some of our Christmas pictures, I had a little voice inside my head griping about how my little Nikon 1 camera doesn't have the same IQ as I'm used to seeing from my D3x and D800 bodies. Then I suddenly realized that the little Nikon 1 outguns the Nikon D200 DSLR I took to Africa in 2007 in every single way. And some of the best images I've ever captured came from that trip.

In fact, apart from a 2MP handicap, the little 1 probably matches or beats my 2008-2010 primary body (D300) too, and that's my all-time favorite action body.

Obviously the ergonomics, layout, and buttons/levers of a DSLR are an advantage in and of themselves. But in image quality, video, high-ISO performance, AF speed and accuracy, even frame rate... it's a contender. Put the guts of my V1 into a D300 shell, and you'd have a very real and capable action camera.

Good Lord, how quickly things evolve.

Wish I had these cameras when I was living less than 1 mile from the end of the runway at Holloman AFB to get shots of F-15's all day long, that and the test sled, now there's something that will rock your walls

Get velcro, staple a small square to the wall and a small square to each corner of the picture frame. Waa Laaa! I do it here too, even though no sonic booms to rock my walls anymore

Well when Zim gets back from his tropical isle R&R, he'll discover that I had a similar experience with the newest Drobo 5D this morning. I unboxed it and loaded all five drives at HQ. When I booted it I got five red vertical lights and nothing showed in dashboard. A call to Drobo technical help, which was answered in less than two minutes, was ably handled. Turns out it needed a firmware update, a two minute exercise, and a re-boot. The array is now backing up 14.89TB of files at HQ and should be finished in 1.5 days, at which point HQ will be "all Thunderbolt all the time"

I have a good friend and client who has ties with the powers that be in Burma. The other day we were doing a shoot together and I mentioned that I'd love a crate of something aviation when he comes back from his next trip over there.

One another note, my new neighbor, Words With Friends inventor, is on a binge of the nicest sort. Flanking his new TBM 850, are two new birds, a gorgeous Extra and a Corvalis. He's a "progressive", I think it's about time to talk to him about "redistribution"

We're sitting in a shaded veranda on the top floor of our hotel overlooking the Pacific: not too shabby. Took a long walk on the beach this morning and, palefaces that we are, will hide from the midday sun. Weather forecast: partly cloudy with a high of 81 degrees, every day this week.

Like I said, not too shabby.

Just saw a humpback whale breach, completely out of the water, a half-mile offshore. And of course I had the 14-24 mounted at the time...

Hi Glenn. I have this little alarm that goes off around fast airplanes recently purchased by people who made big money quickly. 45 years in aviation has imprinted the cliche: "person loves aviation, person gets rich, person buys fast airplanes, person ends up in smoking hole" in my mind. There are really about six people in the WWW (whole wide world) that I'll crawl into an airplane with, call me chicken, but call me "alive". It's a rule that no amount of new and shiny tempts me to break. I've turned down rides and stick opportunities that would make you cringe over the years, and I've never regretted it. Many of the offerers are no longer this side of green.
