Thanks Guys. I have a series with the entire formation clearly etched in the halo, I'm working on it.

Hi Zim, I was heartened to discover the images I posted late last night and early this morning. They were captured on my new X body and only had a few dots of "Canon" dust on the sensor. I am slowly working through the other images. Your LR4 suggestion was great, I'm going to try it. Currently I'm working through several images individually and it takes about an hour a piece with various tools, at 300% to clean them up. Looking on the bright side, I'll never have trouble viewing your 3D pairs again!

You know how much I like your A2G landscapes Zim. The third image is my favorite. The contrast of the white turbine against the plowing pattern is wonderful

Jeff, I never knew what the bumps on the tops of the tails were for. Now I do. Glad the pilot got down ok.

I assume these guys were off to fly CAP? That hornet has it's stingers on.

Jim, the clouds really ruin your day underneath, but man do they make it awesome on top.

Shaggy that Maverick is inert you can see that when the ordnance has blue bands painted on them.
The rocket on the right hand side op the photo is a data pod so they can see real time data when he is doing ACM or air combat maneuvering or training air to ground missions the camera in the maverick would still work so they can see what they are aiming on.
The left hand side I wouldn't now as there are no markings on that one.
When carrying live stuff it should be yellow bands or brown or a combo if i'm correct

Did not know that, thanks for the info. I wondered why a CAP aircraft would need A2G missiles...

We had an unexpected visitor to MCAS Yuma yesterday. A Boeing IDS E-6B Mercury TACAMO. To quote Wikipedia, "TACAMO (Take Charge and Move Out) is a U.S. military system of survivable communications links designed to be used in nuclear war to maintain communications between the decision makers (the National Command Authority) and the triad of strategic nuclear weapon delivery systems". An interesting airplane that I hope never has to be put into actual service.

Jeff, love the White Whale against the white puffies. Jay and J-A, great vapor shots...I'm going to have to go seek out mine from Friday and see if I got anything useful there.

Jeff,
very nice - love the sky and clouds in the background. I also concur with your hope that it's never activated...

Just in case anyone is still wondering, the new 24-70 II from Canon is worth the $$$. Splitting hairs like the 70-200 I v II, but noticeably sharper and improved build quality. The only lenses I used in the air were series II and they are tack sharp.

Didn't take the D800 up, wrestled with doing it but didn't want to complicate the tail position with yet another body and two lenses. Something you really don't want to do is swap lenses in the 25 unless it's an emergency. My second D800 comes in shortly for an assignment in early November. I'll have to see if LowePro has something that I can drag behind me to my tail position that will safely protect two X bodies and two D800's with 24-70's and 70-200's attached. Gunny will have to trim nose down.

I'm grateful for Friday's catch Bill, but the weekend take would have been amazing if we'd have had typical Texas fall skies and light. I don't know if I've been to a show that had a better airframe line up. The WX just killed us. This group could shoot soup labels in a monsoon and come up with winners. I missed out on the Friday light because I was in briefings constantly once I hit the field, then we launched. Don't suppose I'm going to drum up much sympathy from the group though.

Arizona offered a wonderful evening light show as a storm front passed through the Yuma area. Do you want to know how to make a Harrier pilot feel insignificant?

Oh man, so many super shots by everyone! But I have to give the nod to the T-38 from above. That plane just has such great curves, reminds me of a classic 36-24-36.
