@Steve: Wonderful NZ landscapes, the 5DMkIII is serving you well. If memory serves me correctly, the more stark area is one of the locations used in the Lord of the Rings movies - Middle Earth? Any chance you've done a little fly fishing in between sorties?

@Jon: All three monochromes are tremendous. The texture and detail on the "rivets" are simply off the charts. The head-on is one of my favorite CH-53 images ever.

So do they just roll up / backwards on the frame ? I can see how that would work for the plane in the middle but not the ones in back because it would hit the wings of the plane in front.

^^^^ Thanks Jon & Gero. I apologize for deviating from my monochrome roots lately. Try as I may, the past several images just did not benefit from a b&w conversion as much as they did by tweaking the color sliders. Rest assured, I diligently tried to push them through SEP2; to no avail

Sometimes color works best! It sure does on the Harrier!

Not that it matters - but here is the before and after of the Dry Bones image from last week. I liked the foreground and didn't want to cut a lot of it away - since I wanted the planes to be an element in a larger picture and not the focus. That was what I was thinking when i framed it. In post - I thought it could use some cropping though and tried it a lot of ways and ended up with what I posted last week. Maybe Leo's suggestion is a good one and I just need to let the background speak the part of the valley.

Is there a standard "letterbox" dimension? I've used 28.4 x 11.5 for a while - but only because that is the letterbox display on some old movies on my TV. I've noticed though that there are a lot of different interpretations of TV screen letterbox dimensions. I'm guessing the old standard was 70mm x 35mm for widescreen moviehouse screens. Anyone know for sure?

Good medical news: Rolf just came out of surgery to have his tonsils and adenoids removed, with no complications and totally satisfactory results. If the doc's happy, we're happy.

That's what we got when we were kids. All four of us kids went in for the same surgery at once. I was lucky enough to have Major Astro come by the room for a visit while i was there. Seems like he came on Saturdays and visited the children.

Major Astro was a local "celebrity" who donned a space suit and played claymation space shows and cartoons in the afternoons.

Jon: I like the pano crop best - nice image. I believe standard "letterbox" is a 16x9 ratio.

If you look at the oval things, it looks like the planes in the back head out the other direction

I know, I said that, when those planes go out the covers would roll back and hit the wings of the plane in the front. So is this how the covers work though or is it something else ?
