p.1 #1 · How to shoot 8th grade basketball

I have been so impressed with the skill level of everyone here that this was the first place I thought I would post this. I mostly shoot portraits but will need to shoot some photos of my niece who plays 8th grade basketball. The lighting in this gym isnt that good. I have a canon 300D digital rebel and my only lens with a high enough F-stop is my 50mm 1.8. I have a canon 430EX on top of the camera. I know with this short lens I will be limited to shots at one end of the court but that is ok as long as I can get a few quality shots. What I need to know is the best setup with the equipment I have. I was thinking maybe F2.8 ISO 800 but not sure on shutter speed with the flash the fastest speed I can go to is 200. Will the flash freeze the action at this shutter speed to eliminate the motion blur. I hope I can get alot of good advice here I will be shooting her first game in three weeks. Thanks in advance to all that apply.

Try the Canon 85mm 1.8. I prefer staying below 2.2 and keeping the ISO a bit lower.
