p.1 #1 · Sorry - another which body post ! | |
I have recently got a nice 5D which does most of what I want from a camera
I sold my 30D to make way for a 40D and that was going to be my backup body - no problems so far.
The idea was to retain a 1.6 crop body with all the latest features, extending the reach of my lenses and allowing me to retain my 2 EFS lenses.
The majority of what I shoot is landscapes, automotive and pics from inside my workshop on special car projects. I am rarely at the racetrack but when I am 5/6 FPS and the extra reach would be nice.
Now having made my mind up i really want a 40D - all of a sudden I am seeing a whole glut of used 1Dmk11's and a 1Ds's available for 40D + grip type money!
My head says the 40D will be the better choice (allrounder) - until it comes to landscapes where the 1Ds is on a par with the 5D - but better equipped to deal with the British climate!
It will be possible to use the 1Ds when the 40D and 5D would have to stay in the car, costlines and waterfalls become slightly less of a hazard and of course I finally get to use a 1 series body
The 1DMk2n would be my first choice solving most of the problems in a single body, however the budget only really stretches to high mileage Mk2's and the occasional 1Ds - at the moment the N is a fair bit more expensive and not quite as well endowed in the sensor department.
I dont really expect anyone to make my mind up for me - but having used neither a 1Ds or a 40D I would be eager to hear from anyone with experience of these.
The 1Ds was never a bad camera, and a couple of years of ageing hasn't turned it into one all of a sudden - but will the 1Ds just be too similar to the 5D?
I did spend ages searching - and the general concensus seems to be in favour of the 5D over 1Ds
But would a S/H 1Ds win over a new warranted 40D with grip ?
Thanks for reading this far !
