Hey all,
I bought an Impact battery when I bought my camera. I bought the battery grip later(perhaps not important, but not ruling anything out). Anyway, about 3 weeks ago the impact just stopped taking a charge. It is a li-ion which should not have any memory issues to start with, but even if that were the issue, I make sure that they are charged when I am running on empty, or have a gig. Are these less expensive because they crap out, or did I get a dud?

Lithium Ion are reported to not have a memory effect, but there are clearly a limited number of re-charge cycles they can handle. Also, over time, they hold less of a charge. And more importantly, they are not meant to be run completely dead before re-charging. Bottom line, they don't last forever.

How old is the battery? Rough idea how many times you've charged it?

march. perhaps 50 cycles max. I do not run them dead, just low.

I won't buy Impact brand again, as one of the two I have lasted for about a week.

I've got a couple of Impact batteries for my 5D that I've run for nearly two years...no problems.

When charging, be sure to keep them in an area that is ventilated. Also, you can keep them on the charger when not in use.

I tried this. I left it on for like 2 days but it would not take a charge. The odd thing is that this was not a gradual loss of ability. It was like just one day it went belly up. When I put it on the charger it blinks for like a half minute, then the light goes solid. This is being charged on the Canon charger that came with the camera.

Sounds like your battery has failed. If leaving it on for 2 days didn't charge it, I would suggest that one of the cells is failed/failing.

After you get a new battery...double-check your charger manual. A charger seems like such a simple item to use that one might not even read the manual. Some chargers require you to leave the battery on the charge some period of time (30 minutes to 2 hours) to reach full charge after the light stops blinking...they are only 80-90% charged when the light first stops blinking. If you've been removing the battery early you're never getting a full charge.
