I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this peculiar situation.
I shoot with a 30D, 550's, I have the autofocus assist beam set to only fire when I have the flash on the camera, that way it was just the infrared beams, instead of the annoying white flash. Recently it stopped working, and even though the custom function is still turned on, the assist doesn't fire in low light.
I was wondering if anyone know of something that I may have inadvertently changed, or if it's a service issue.
If there is a setting for this in both the camera and the flash (I don't have either of them), the flash usually overrides the camera. That might somehow be involved.
AF assist does not work with AI Servo is the better way to say it.
AI servo sets the focus at the moment of shutter release (or just a fraction before). There is no time to do the assist beam. To get the best use of the assist beam, use One-shot, start AF which triggers the assist beam, wait just a fraction of a second and then trip the shutter.
