The original 4 MP 1D?

I would chose the 40D for wildlife shooting. Not sure of the value at this point.

I've got both...don't think my 40D gets this shot. 1D 400 f5.6L wide open.
As to pricing:
mint low clicks say <25K around a $1000
excellent 30-60K around $900
good condition 70-100K $800
over 100K I've seen as low as $700
These are +/- $50 or so. Complete in box will obviously fetch higher.
DC coupler/firewire a must to "talk" to your 1D via computer. HTH...Will

My vote goes to the 40D. Better high ISO capabilities, nice pixel density, decent AF and frame rate.

I think it's a toss up. The 1D has better weather protection, superior AF, slightly faster fps. The files come out from it are just lovely.

I vote for 40D - 10.1 MP, 6.5 fps, Digiprocess III, 14 bit color, live view, 3" LCD, better battery, sensor dust removal ,etc. , etc.

And my 40D got this picture.

ISO 400 100/400L @400mm ƒ7.1 1/640

I do not have both but I do have a 1D and once you have heard the shutter on a 1 series and seen the view finder light up the 45 zone af well anyway....best of both worlds own them both. As for me I have a 30D but I'll only use it when I have to go to 1600 iso other than that you'll see me with the 1D. Check out some of the jpegs straight out of the camera from the 1D. No PP necessary.

1D has faster AF than 40D IMO.

Depends on what type of wildlife shooting you want to do. If it's something like birds in flight, then perhaps the AF speed of the 1-series bodies will be a better choice. On the other hand, if you don't need the quick AF, then the 40D is a better choice (higher megapixels, longer reach with 1.6X crop, etc.)

I have a 10d and want a higher quality camera. for shooting wildlife and I was going to rent a 100-400L lens I do not have any L lens .If I did not buy a camera I would get a 70-200L for an all around lens and I dont think this would be good for shooting wildlife
