tho there have been moans in the past , we all understood pretty much that in this world you do get what you paid for and you know what you get for "free" . Nikon has led the way with NC and then NX and so i never really cussed too much when i had to pay for it. No other editor is as rich and mature (tho still has glaring issues too ), when you get over the quirks and the notion that is pretty much prevalent these days that wares should be "free" one understands this.
As an aside , i watched a neat documentary on the making of Bruce Springsteen's epic Born To Run, last nite and a real sense of sadness hit me when i saw the studio crammed full of gear and the herculean efforts it used to take to make a great record, how when i was a kid also how we saved our pennys and our "lawn mowing money" to buy records and how we used to read the liner notes over and over. Now days kids think music is "free" , never even seen a vinyl record and many have never heard of a cassette or frankly even know what a CD is . To them music is a "right" , i feel the same attitude pervades wrt software like NEF Editors
While I'm happy to see it included, after coming from Canon and DPP, Capture NX is sooo worth the cash that I never thought twice about it. It's a great app. I just hope Nikon doesn't slow the dev cycle now that it won't be as much of a revenue source.
