Sean, I am not from the UK but I can tell you there are a very large # of other UK photographers on the DWF. Of course, it depends on what you are looking for in the end but I know I have grown significantly as a photographer and a business from belonging.
I recently dropped out after three years as a DWF'er.
I found it all getting rather incestuous with an unhealthy obsession with certain big name photographers who only had to post a sentence to get pages of hero worship.
Not their fault of course but I was finding my finger permanently wedged in the back of my throat !!!
I haven't missed it and find this and POTN site to more than make up for it.
I visit there quite a lot as I was pretty intimidated by the great photography I viewed on here at first, but I think I am getting better and may just get the nerve to post something here someday.
POTN Has some wonderful people there as well as great photographers! You should come vist sometime
I'm in the UK and am a member of DWF - excellent information available and yes there are some cliques - but you find that on all forums.
I have found it well worth the money but also find this site and POTN to be valuable - use all avenues open - it is geared very much to the pro and there is a very high number of top wedding photographers on there.
I'm here in LA and had a guest pass for DWF and it looked really good. If nothing else, if you could pick up one wedding from their emergency weddings, then it would pay for the membership for many years. I just haven't been able to pony-up the $130 now. I'm all for a good forum, but since I'm not on the inside anymore, explain to me what I am getting for $130? Sure it's valuable information, but is there an actual service, product, etc being provided, outside of just elite membership and inclusion in the forums? Basically saying, couldn't the same information be shared on a completely free forum somewhere? Do you get free PS actions, or something more valuable than information?
I've been on DWF for a short ammount of time now and its been totally worth it for me. I don't think your location in the world really helps or hurts anything. And yes, there is some action, template, document sharing there. All of which could be shared for free elsewhere but I've never seen it here personally. Although I think FM is a great option as well.

Hmmmm, I've seen the same kind of sharing on here when people ask for it so I'm not sure how DWF sharing is any different. I'm just sayin.......
I was a member for a few years before they became a pay site and loved it. I decided not to pay because I didn't find anything on there that is not on soooooo many other sites I visit.
Perhaps you can look at it this way, would you rather buy a transmission for your BMW M5 from a BMW dealearship or Autozone?
Sometimes its more beneficial to go somewhere that specializes (or is dedicated to) a certain area.
Now don't get me wrong, I think FM is a great place, but I also enjoy my DWF Membership. I'd pay for a membership for this forum too if they decided to start charging.
Also the emergency shooter/ 2nd needed forums are nice and are worth paying for as well.
Please don't take my posts as trying to be captain DWF. Like I said before I'm new there but find it helpful.
