Great thread of trains and some awesome scenery as well. Might be boring, but just 2 here. First, this older engine taken trackside, at the Hoboken, NJ terminal.
Very cool thread! I don't shoot many train shots at all, but every now and then I grab one. Here's a grab shot from earlier in the year while waiting for the Metra in Chicago to go to the Auto Show...
One year, a traveling ballet troupe decided to perform Swan Lake. It spent months rehearsing. Two days before hitting the road, it held a dress rehearsal. Unfortunately, moths had gotten into the tutus. They were destroyed. And there was no place in town to buy new ones. So the producer called around to neighboring cities. Eventually, a shop promised to deliver tutus by train the next day. The producer went to the train station to await delivery. The stationmaster noticed him and asked if he needed help. “No,” he replied. “I’m just waiting for the tutu train.”
Wanting to stay coupled to this thread here is another one of mine. This is my very favorite inanimate object, Uncle Pete's FEF-III #8444, now renumbered to 844.
Not exactly a train pic but certainly a fundamental part. Found several big bins of these where crews had been tearing up a portion of an abandoned rail line.
The Durango and Silverton's Silver Vista Class car. The original was caught in a shop fire, the D&S crew built the new Silver Vista in 2006 using plans from the original, it provides great views of the beautiful scenery.
