I'd like to get a supertele. I sold off my 400 2.8 mk1 a while ago for various reasons, but I've been without a long lens... long enough. Time to get back in the game.
for financially reasons, i'm looking for non-IS models
I'd prefer a 500 f4.5, for birding and field sports.
A 400 2.8 would be nice, but I'd want a mkII (still non-IS, but not mk1), and that is pricey.
I'd strongly consider a good deal on a 300 2.8 because it's just so dang versatile and convenient, and the copy i used to have was the sharpest lens i've ever owned.
I'd consider a 600, but i'm not sure if it'd be in my price range.
As far as cosmetics, I could not care less. You can chip every last piece of white paint off it before you send it if you want. i just want the glass and AF to be perfect.
