I've been shooting my D70s for 3 years or so, and the filenames have always been DSC_####. Today after I got back from a walk about and uploaded my files I noticed that they all started with an underscore: that is, _DSC_####.
Can anyone explain this? In PopPhoto this month I read something about in canon the underscore meaning you are in Adobe RGB space, but I have been in this colour space since the beginning.
With my D200, files beginning with the underscore are in the AdobeRGB colour space, and when sRGB is chosen the underscore is at the end. I suspect that's the way it is across the Nikon line.
Like Jim said, I'd check it. One thing that can happen is, you can change from one color mode to another and that will automatically switch you to the correct color space, e.g., from AdobeRGB1998 to sRGB.
Thanks again Jim, Jack. After spotting the underscore I did check immediately the colour mode, which I had as a custom setting, and it was still at Adobe RBG. As for images that I have shot in the past... would an exif program tell me what colour mode they were shot in? I guess bridge is of no help because it just shows the colour mode you WANT to work in?
Hello Paul. Unfortunately, Capture is about the only soft that will give you the 'details' of how your camera was set up at the time of capture. The Color Space (aRGB or sRGB) would be in the exif, but nothing about the different color modes (I,II,III, etc).
You can also use Nikon View. It's free and you can download it from here. It will show you the color modes set in your camera as well. Maybe Picture Project too but I don't use it so can't say for sure.
I have proven myself to be mentally unstable! Apparently I've been in sRGB for years, and somehow, someway, without looking at the lcd the last time I was out, I managed to go through the menu's and change the colour mode. There's gotta be some secret shorcut I pressed by mistake
