I’d posted that the 24, 58 and a few other Nikkors will need a baffle removed to fit into the EOS box…here’re the pix…it worked for me, and fairly easily, but of course, you work at your own peril…
Here’s the 24/2.8 that won’t fit into the 10D box…much like the EF-S lenses won’t.
Note the set screws below the baffle coming into it through the mount. http://img504.imageshack.us/img504/1200/24b4yw7.jpg
Here’s the baffle removed showing the 3 screws…note that 2 screws have a conical head, and one has a “block” head…THIS IS THE ONE that goes into the baffle ring from directly under the extended baffle as in the above right pic http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/916/24abaffpi1.jpg
Here’s the lens with the EOS adapter and the bafflle ring with the screws back in place so I don’t lose them…You could, now that it's safely off the lens, saw off the offending protrusion of the baffle and put the baffle back into place...just remember that the block-head screw goes in the hole beneath the cut-off section.
I added a note that the baffle could be cut to fit and replaced, if so desired...which I guess it should to prevent dust getting in places no dust should go...
Thanks for the information Jay, in the past I have just covered the rear element and used a dremel tool on the lenses I have had to modify. Next time I'll take the time to remove the baffle to work away from the glass.
Actually, I am still wondering what the purpose of the baffle on the nikkor lenses really is. On some lenses it is a small tab, on others such as the one you show it is much larger. I always thought it was to prevent damaging the rear element if set down on a flat surface without the rear lens cap. It doesn't seem to have any optical properties as blocking light rays, but I could be wrong. Not going to loose any sleep over this, but welcome other opinions on the function of those baffles.
I'm guessing that the baffle IS to protect the rear element from idiot pros like myself who don't watch where and how they put it down while they change lenses...which is why I always went out with all my lenses on a body...
